Protein O‐glycosylation in the Bacteroidota phylum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Species of the Bacteroidota phylum exhibit a unique O‐glycosylation system. It modifies noncytoplasmic proteins on a specific amino acid motif with a shared glycan core but a species‐specific outer glycan. A locus of multiple glycosyltransferases responsible for the synthesis of the outer glycan has been identified.

Current Concepts and Unresolved Questions in Dietary Protein Requirements and Supplements in Adults

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2017
Protein needs for otherwise healthy individuals older than 19 years are defined by the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) at 0.80 g protein/kg/day. There is no recommendation in the current RDA for subpopulations of older adults or people in various ...

The m5C methyltransferase NSUN2 promotes codon‐dependent oncogenic translation by stabilising tRNA in anaplastic thyroid cancer

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, 2023
Background Translation dysregulation plays a crucial role in tumourigenesis and cancer progression. Oncogenic translation relies on the stability and availability of tRNAs for protein synthesis, making them potential targets for cancer therapy.

Kinetic Studies on the Transport of Cytoplasmically Synthesized Proteins into the Mitochondria in Intact Cells of Neurospora crassa [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
The transport of cytoplasmically synthesized mitochondrial proteins was investigated in whole cells of Neurospora crassa, using dual labelling and immunological techniques.

Matrix: a complex amalgam of structures and functions in tumor microenvironment

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The matrix is a dynamic, intricate three‐dimensional mesh of biomolecules with both structural and functional properties. This review deals with the complexity of this ‘molecular amalgam’ in the tumor microenvironment and highlights its importance in the maintenance and evolution of tumors by describing certain matrix biomolecules, such as ...

Molecular Weight Distribution of Proteins Synthesized in Single, Identified Neurons of Aplysia [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Parietovisceral ganglia from Aplysia californica were incubated in medium containing leucine-3H. Single, identified nerve cell somas were isolated from the ganglia, and their proteins extracted and separated by electrophoresis on 5% SDS-polyacrylamide ...

Leucine deprivation inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis of human breast cancer cells via fatty acid synthase

open access: yesOncoTarget, 2016
Substantial studies on fatty acid synthase (FASN) have focused on its role in regulating lipid metabolism and researchers have a great interest in treating cancer with dietary manipulation of amino acids.

Preparation and characterization of renal cell peptides from fetal rats for their antitumor activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study aimed to prepare renal cells (RCs) from fetal rats which were digested by enzymes. Candidate peptides RCPs were characterized by capillary HPLC and MS and their bioactivity was predicted using peptideranker. The predicted top 10 bioactive peptides were synthesized.
