A new monoclonal antibody detects downregulation of protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type γ in chronic myeloid leukemia patients [PDF]
Background: Protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor gamma (PTPRG) is a ubiquitously expressed member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase family known to act as a tumor suppressor gene in many different neoplasms with mechanisms of inactivation including ...

Leukapheresis in multiple sclerosis.
Since there is no satisfactory animal model for multiple sclerosis (MS), a need exists to study various tissues of the affected patient himself. Leukapheresis is a relatively non-invasive technique for obtaining large numbers of leucocytes from patients and control patients. Using ACD-B solution as anticoagulant, the procedure can process 3 500 ml.

Autologous peripheral blood stem cell harvest: Collection efficiency and factors affecting it
Background: Harvest of hematopoietic progenitor cells via leukapheresis is being used increasingly for transplants in India. Adequate yield of cells per kilogram body weight of recipient is required for successful engraftment.

Long term impact of hyperleukocytosis in newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia patients undergoing allogeneic stem cell transplantation : An analysis from the acute leukemia working party of the EBMT [PDF]
Up to 20% of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients present initially with hyperleukocytosis, placing them at increased risk for early mortality during induction. Yet, it is unknown whether hyperleukocytosis still retains prognostic value for AML patients

Extracorporeal photopheresis: Review of technical aspects
Extracorporeal photochemotherapy (ECP) is considered as an immune modulating therapy majorly targeting the T cells of the Immune system. ECP induces an anti-inflammatory condition with tolerogenic responses without inducing a global immunosuppression ...

IND-enabling studies for a clinical trial to genetically program a persistent cancer-targeted immune system [PDF]
Purpose: To improve persistence of adoptively transferred T-cell receptor (TCR)–engineered T cells and durable clinical responses, we designed a clinical trial to transplant genetically-modified hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) together with adoptive cell

Estrogen receptor-1 is a key regulator of HIV-1 latency that imparts gender-specific restrictions on the latent reservoir. [PDF]
Unbiased shRNA library screens revealed that the estrogen receptor-1 (ESR-1) is a key factor regulating HIV-1 latency. In both Jurkat T cells and a Th17 primary cell model for HIV-1 latency, selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs, i.e ...
