Secretion and expression of the Pasteurella haemolytica Leukotoxin

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1990
The Pasteurella haemolytica leukotoxin gene cluster (lktCABD) is homologous to the Escherichia coli hemolysin locus (hlyCABD). Since the cloned leukotoxin (LktA) is not secreted from E. coli cells, a heteroplasmid complementation system was developed that permits secretion of the leukotoxin from cells expressing the hemolysin transport proteins HlyB ...

Nucleotide sequence of the leukotoxin gene from Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans: homology to the alpha-hemolysin/leukotoxin gene family [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1990
The leukotoxin produced by Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans has been implicated in the etiology of localized juvenile periodontitis. To initiate a genetic analysis into the role of this protein in disease, we have cloned its gene, lktA. We now present the complete nucleotide sequence of the lktA gene from A. actinomycetemcomitans.

Pasteurella haemolytica leukotoxin—induced synthesis of eicosanoids by bovine neutrophils in vitro

open access: yes, 1994
Exposure of isolated bovine neutrophils to partially purified Pasteurella haemolytica leukotoxin caused increased synthesis of leukotriene B4 (LTB4) but not thromboxane B2 (TXB2) from endogenous arachidonic acid.

Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans Leukotoxin Activates the NLRP3 Inflammasome and Cell-to-Cell Communication

open access: yesPathogens, 2022
Carriers of highly leukotoxic genotypes of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans are at high risk for rapid degradation of tooth-supporting tissues. The leukotoxin (LtxA) expressed by this bacterium induces a rapid pro-inflammatory response in leukocytes

Periodontitis and rheumatoid arthritis—Global efforts to untangle two complex diseases

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Understanding the impact of oral health on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) will inform how best to manage patients with both periodontitis and RA. This review seeks to provide an update on interventional and mechanistic investigations, including a brief summary of European Research programs investigating the link between periodontitis and RA. Recent

Periodontitis and Periodontal Conditions in Systemically Healthy Children and Adolescents

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, Volume 53, Issue 7, Page 1100-1198, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective To answer the PICoS question ‘in systemically healthy children and adolescents (Population), what are the main features of periodontitis, necrotising periodontal diseases (NPD) and other periodontal conditions (periodontal abscesses, endo‐periodontal lesions, traumatic occlusal forces, prosthesis‐ and tooth‐related factors ...

Regulation of expression of the Pasteurella haemolytica leukotoxin determinant [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1989
The Pasteurella haemolytica leukotoxin determinant is composed of four contiguous genes encoded on the same DNA strand and denoted lktCABD, in the order of their genetic organization. To gain a better understanding of the expression and regulation of the leukotoxin, the transcripts and promoters of the lkt determinant were mapped.

From the Proteome to Therapeutics: A Multi‐Database Approach to Drug Discovery in Periodontitis—An Exploratory Pilot Study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, Volume 53, Issue 7, Page 990-1004, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction This explanatory pilot study presents a workflow to identify approved drugs, which could be repurposed for periodontitis therapy using salivary proteomics combined with drug‐target database screening. Methods Proteomic analyses of saliva using LC–MS/MS were conducted in two independent settings: a cohort (sub‐study I, N = 187) and

Editorial Comments to the Special Issue: “Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans—Gram-Negative Bacterial Pathogen”

open access: yesPathogens, 2020
Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans is a periodontal pathogen colonizing the oral cavity in many individuals of the human population. It is equipped with several potent virulence factors that can cause cell death and induce or evade the host ...
