Epigenetic drift of H3K27me3 in aging links glycolysis to healthy longevity in Drosophila

open access: yeseLife, 2018
Epigenetic alteration has been implicated in aging. However, the mechanism by which epigenetic change impacts aging remains to be understood. H3K27me3, a highly conserved histone modification signifying transcriptional repression, is marked and ...

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Self-concept clarity development across the lifespan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Self-concept clarity can and does change across the lifespan. This chapter presents a meta-analysis summarizing normative patterns of rank-order stability and mean-level change of self-concept clarity. It then reviews evidence for individual variability

LIFESPAN: A Tool for the Computer-Aided Design of Longitudinal Studies

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
Researchers planning a longitudinal study typically search, more or less informally, a multivariate space of possible study designs that include dimensions such as the hypothesized true variance in change, indicator reliability, the number and spacing of

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Feasibility and Tolerability of Performing Portable MRI for Neurological Disorders in an Outpatient Neurology Clinic: A Prospective Cohort

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Accessing brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be challenging, especially for underserved patients, which may lead to disparities in neurological diagnosis. Method This mixed‐methods study enrolled adults with one of four neurological disorders: mild cognitive impairment or dementia of the Alzheimer type, multiple sclerosis ...

Lifespan- and depression-related changes to associative memory

open access: yesActa Psychologica
Associative memory may be more sensitive to both lifespan development and to affective disorders than item memory. However, lifespan and depression-related effects on associative versus item memory have never been investigated in a single study, and to date it is unclear whether associative memory difficulties are similar in children, older adults and ...

Aging in vitro and D-glucose uptake kinetics of diploid human fibroblasts [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
By use of a rapid technique, initial rates of D-glucose transport were obtained during the lifespan in vitro of a commercially available strain of human embryo lung fibroblasts (Flow 2000).

Functional and Structural Evidence of Neurofluid Circuit Aberrations in Huntington Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Disrupted neurofluid regulation may contribute to neurodegeneration in Huntington disease (HD). Because neurofluid pathways influence waste clearance, inflammation, and the distribution of central nervous system (CNS)–delivered therapeutics, understanding their dysfunction is increasingly important as targeted treatments emerge.

The Seeds of Change: Attitudinal Stability and the Direction of Attitudinal Change across the Lifespan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Folk wisdom has long held that people become more conservative as they grow older. The empirics behind this claim, however, are not definitive. Utilizing panel data from the Michigan Youth-Parent Socialization Panel study and a longitudinal sample of ...
