The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

The numerous multistable phenomena in vision, hearing and touch attest that the inner workings of perception are prone to instability. We investigated a visual example—binocular rivalry—with an accurate no-report paradigm, and uncovered developmental and

PURR - The Persistent URL Resource Resolver [PDF]
URLs have a precarious functional lifespan. They resolve the intended target (web page, PDF, audio stream, and so on) only so long as the target is available, otherwise they'll point to a dead end.

The protonated form of butyrate, as well as other short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), is membrane permeable. In acidic extracellular environments, this can lead to intracellular accumulation of SCFAs and cytosolic acidification. This phenomenon will be particularly relevant in acidic environments such as the large intestine or tumor microenvironments ...

Water-Transfer Slows Aging in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. [PDF]
Transferring Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells to water is known to extend their lifespan. However, it is unclear whether this lifespan extension is due to slowing the aging process or merely keeping old yeast alive.

“I want to be more ...” Can we intentionally change our personality traits? [PDF]
In this article, we reviewed and critically evaluated the latest research in the field of personality psychology that focuses on understanding and empirically examining a person’s own effort or self-regulation as a source of personality trait change ...

Perturbations of lifespan inequality in natural populations [PDF]
Correlations between high life expectancy and low lifespan inequality are frequently observed. A recent article seeks to explain this phenomenon by proposing that a mortality improvement maps to life expectancy and relative lifespan equality through the same weights w(x), with an extra weight W(x) applied for relative lifespan equality, specific for ...

Changes in Plasticity Across the Lifespan [PDF]
We conceptualize brain plasticity as an intrinsic property of the nervous system enabling rapid adaptation in response to changes in an organism's internal and external environment. In prenatal and early postnatal development, plasticity allows for the formation of organized nervous system circuitry and the establishment of functional networks.

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

Long-time existence for multi-dimensional periodic water waves [PDF]
We prove an extended lifespan result for the full gravity-capillary water waves system with a $2$ dimensional periodic interface: for initial data of sufficiently small size $\varepsilon$, smooth solutions exist up to times of the order of $\varepsilon^{-5/3+}$, for almost all values of the gravity and surface tension parameters.
