Pleural Fluid Glucose – Routine but Vital Biochemical Parameter for Differential Diagnosis of Effusions [PDF]
Biochemical parameters in pleural fluid are usually done to identify the cause of pleural effusion. Differentiating the effusion into either transudative or exudative is a logical first step, with further investigations dictated by the clinical ...

Cut-off value of pleural fluid C-reactive protein in etiologic diagnosis of pleural fluid
Background: Classification of effusion into transudates or exudates is considered as the corner stone in the etiological diagnosis of pleural effusion.

ABSTRACT Background Families of children with cancer experience significant financial strain, even with universal healthcare. Indirect costs, such as productivity losses and non‐medical expenses, are rarely included in economic evaluations, and little is known about how effectively financial aid programmes alleviate this burden. Childhood brain tumours

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Bacterial Infection Elicits Heat Shock Protein 72 Release from Pleural Mesothelial Cells [PDF]
Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) has been implicated in infection-related processes and has been found in body fluids during infection. This study aimed to determine whether pleural mesothelial cells release HSP70 in response to bacterial infection in vitro

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Plasmonic metagratings for simultaneous determination of Stokes parameters
Measuring light's state of polarization is an inherently difficult problem, since the phase information between orthogonal polarization states is typically lost in the detection process.
