Bacterial patterning controlled by light exposure

open access: yesOrganic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2015
Patterning of multiple bacterial strains in one system is achieved by employing a single photo-activated antibiotic.

Leucine‐rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a ganglioside‐binding protein

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neuronal hyperexcitability associated with a decrease/absence of the extracellular protein LGI1 has been suggested to be primarily due to the downregulation of Kv1 channel expression. The molecular mechanisms underlying this decrease have not yet been elucidated.

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

Light exposure behaviour assessment (LEBA): A novel self-reported instrument to capture light exposure-related behaviour [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Light exposure is an important driver of health and well-being. Many aspects of light exposure are modulated by our behaviour. How these light-related behaviours can be shaped to optimise personal light exposure is currently unknown.

Daily light exposure among psychiatric inpatients

open access: yesنشریه پرستاری ایران, 1994
Sun light accompany with rest and fresh air is beneficial for maintenance of health. Although scientific and laboratory witnesses have shown the relationship between light exposure and mental health, the live experience of pleasure feeling of sunlight is

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.
