Oral Prevotella induces fat taste impairment, visceral lipid accumulation and insulin resistance by downregulating Hedgehog signaling in taste buds

open access: yesJournal of Oral Microbiology
Background Fat taste impairment has been implicated in visceral lipid accumulation and insulin resistance, with emerging evidence linking it to the oral microbiota.

Parkin deficiency prevents chronic ethanol-induced hepatic lipid accumulation through β-catenin accumulation

open access: yesCell Communication and Signaling, 2019
Background Alcohol abuse and alcoholism lead to alcohol liver disease such as alcoholic fatty liver. Parkin is a component of the multiprotein E3 ubiquitin ligase complex and is associated with hepatic lipid accumulation.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Diosgenin ameliorates palmitic acid-induced lipid accumulation via AMPK/ACC/CPT-1A and SREBP-1c/FAS signaling pathways in LO2 cells

open access: yesBMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2019
BackgroundNon-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease and is characterized by excessive hepatic lipid accumulation.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Association of Lipid Accumulation Product with Cardio-Metabolic Risk Factors in Postmenopausal Women

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2016
The lipid accumulation product is a novel, safe and inexpensive index of central lipid over accumulation based on waist circumference and fasting concentration of circulating triglycerides.

Myocardial Lipid Accumulation in the Diabetic Heart [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 2007
The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus is rising in the United States, with a recent estimate suggesting that 7% of the US population (or 21 million persons) have the disease.1 In addition to well-recognized contributions to coronary artery disease risk, the metabolic derangement of diabetes also can result in abnormalities of cardiac function ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Effects of Ethanol Extracts from Grateloupia elliptica, a Red Seaweed, and Its Chlorophyll Derivative on 3T3-L1 Adipocytes: Suppression of Lipid Accumulation through Downregulation of Adipogenic Protein Expression

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2021
Grateloupia elliptica (G. elliptica) is a red seaweed with antioxidant, antidiabetic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and anticoagulant activities. However, the anti-obesity activity of G. elliptica has not been fully investigated.
