Starch and oil in the donor cow diet and starch in substrate differently affect the in vitro ruminal biohydrogenation of linoleic and linolenic acids [PDF]
Trans isomers of fatty acids exhibit different health properties. Among them, trans-10,cis-12 conjugated linoleic acid has negative effects on milk fat production and can affect human health.

Abstract This study investigated the physiological and morphological adaptations of the liver of the carnivorous fish Pygocentrus nattereri (piranha) in response to seasonal variations (dry and rainy seasons) in the Brazilian Pantanal. The objective was to describe how the liver, a central organ in metabolic regulation, responds to environmental ...

Glucocorticoids increase basal lipolysis, but not epinephrine stimulated lipolysis
Glucocorticoids (GCs) are associated with central obesity, yet have been classically defined as lipolytic. We have recently shown that exercise training decreases fat mass while increasing GC action in adipocytes, perhaps by increasing adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) and hormone sensitive lipase (HSL).

This study was to evaluate the role of GH in lipolysis and insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes and clarify the underlying mechanism. Our findings demonstrate that GH activates ERK/HSL signaling pathway, promotes lipolysis, and impairs insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes.

Conjugated linoleic acid and betaine affect lipolysis in pig adipose tissue explants
Consumers’ demand of leaner meat products is a challenge. Although betaine and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) have the potential to decrease porcine adipose tissue, their mode of action is poorly understood.

Offspring subcutaneous adipose markers are sensitive to the timing of maternal gestational weight gain [PDF]
peer-reviewedBackground Excessive maternal weight gain during pregnancy impacts on offspring health. This study focused on the timing of maternal gestational weight gain, using a porcine model with mothers of normal pre-pregnancy weight.

The transition period in dairy cows, spanning 3 weeks before and after calving, is a critical phase characterized by increased nutrient demands, reduced dry matter intake (DMI), and elevated risk of metabolic disorders such as negative nutrient balance (NNB), lipolysis, proteolysis, and oxidative stress.

Lipolysis profile of some non-European raw milk cheese varieties: a review
This review focuses on the lipolysis profile of some non European raw milk cheese varieties. Lipolysis data of some traditional/artisanal non-European raw milk cheeses such as cheeses ripened in an animal skin, cheeses ripened in brine, cheeses produced

The unique properties of red clover in the diet of ruminants [PDF]
Grassland legumes are essential in organic ruminant livestock production due to their ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen (N), providing high yields of high feeding value without N fertilization.

ABSTRACT This study explored fasting‐induced physiological remodeling effects on meat quality in aged laying hens. Fasting for 15 days (F15) significantly reduced abdominal fat, intermuscular fat width, subcutaneous fat thickness, and liver index versus pre‐fasting (F0) (p < 0.05), which recovered post‐refeeding.
