Synthesis and Critical View on the Structure-Activity Relationships of N-(Substituted phenyl)-/N-Diphenylmethyl-piperazine-Based Conjugates as Antimycobacterial Agents

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
This research focused on a three-step synthesis, analytical, physicochemical, and biological evaluation of hybrid molecules 6a–g, containing a lipophilic 3-trifluoromethylphenyl moiety, polar carbamoyloxy bridge, 2-hydroxypropan-1,3-diyl chain and 4 ...

Impact of lipophilic carriers on metronidazole lipophilicity

open access: yesTropical Journal of Pharmaceutical Research
Purpose: To optimize the lipophilicity of metronidazole using two lipophilic carriers (stearic acid and cholesterol). Methods: The partition coefficient of compounds was determined using the shake flask method. The classical method included shaking a sample in a flask to equilibrate it between an aqueous phase and an organic phase.

Extracellular Vesicles Modulation by an Adiponectin Receptor Agonist Provides Cardioprotection for Myocardial Ischemic Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ALY688, a drug mimicking the heart‐protective hormone adiponectin, reduces myocardial ischemia injury. ALY688 increases the production of extracellular vesicles, which carry protective cargo including adiponectin itself.

Comparison of HPLC, HPTLC, and In Silico Lipophilicity Parameters Determined for 5-Heterocyclic 2-(2,4-Dihydroxyphenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazoles

open access: yesMolecules
The 5-heterocyclic 2-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazoles were obtained as potential biologically active compounds. Lipophilicity is one of the most important physicochemical properties of compounds and was already taken into account during the drug ...

Plasticizer Effects in the PVC Membrane of the Dibasic Phosphate Selective Electrode

open access: yesChemosensors, 2015
The PVC membrane of an ion-selective electrode (ISE) sensitive to dibasic phosphate ions (HPO4-ISE) has not been optimized for maximum selectivity, sensitivity, and useable ISE lifetime and further work was necessary to improve its performance. Two areas

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

A Comparative Study of the Lipophilicity of Metformin and Phenformin

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
The results presented in this paper confirm the beneficial role of an easy-to-use and low-cost thin-layer chromatography (TLC) technique for describing the retention behavior and the experimental lipophilicity parameter of two biguanide derivatives ...

Counterintuitive Fluorescence Blue Shift in Symmetry Breaking Dicationic Bis(indolium) with Two‐Photon Absorption Properties for NIR Living Cell Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Highly water‐soluble dicationic bis(indolium) dyes have been prepared, showing excellent two‐photon absorption and light emission. Their fluorescence behavior discloses an unusual increasing blue shift with increasing solvent polarity, which, in parallel, is beneficial for enhanced detection in biological media.
