Neuronal toll-like receptor 4 signaling induces brain endothelial activation and neutrophil transmigration in vitro

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2012
Background The innate immune response in the brain is initiated by pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPS) or danger-associated molecular patterns (DAMPS) produced in response to central nervous system (CNS) infection or injury.

Analysis of lipopolysaccharide antigens of Treponema hyodysenteriae [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) extracts obtained from Treponema hyodysenteriae of serogroups A, B, D and E, and from T. innocens were examined by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), silver-staining, and immunoblotting with hyperimmune rabbit ...

Hygiene hypothesis and innate immunity. evaluating the role of environmental factors and genetic polymorphisms on the expression of receptors of the innate immune system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background In ‘westernised’ countries, the prevalence of childhood asthma and allergy has risen throughout the last few decades. A series of epidemiological studies showed reduced prevalence of asthma and allergy among farmers’ children compared to non ...

Photoacoustic Nanotagging for In Vivo Tracking and Optimization of Macrophage Immunotherapy in Solid Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Macrophage‐based immunotherapy for solid tumors is limited by poor tracking of cell localization and persistence. This study introduces nanotagged macrophages enabling near‐infrared photoacoustic imaging for real‐time monitoring. IFNγ‐conjugated tags enhance antitumor polarization without harming viability.

Interaction of intestinal microflora with Toll-like receptors in health and pathology

open access: yesМедицинский вестник Юга России, 2010
Toll-like receptors (TLR) can interact with intestinal microflora under physiological steady-state conditions. This interaction is required for intestinal homeostasis.

Endotoxin-Induced Inflammation Suppresses the Effect of Melatonin on the Release of LH from the Ovine Pars Tuberalis Explants—Ex Vivo Study

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
The secretion of the hormone melatonin reliably reflects environmental light conditions. Among numerous actions, in seasonal breeders, melatonin may regulate the secretion of the gonadotropins acting via its corresponding receptors occurring in the Pars ...

Recognition of Receptor Lipopolysaccharides by Spike G Protein of Bacteriophage φX174

open access: yesBioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 2000
The spike G protein of bacteriophage phiX174 was prepared as a hexa histidine-tagged G protein (HisG). In the enzyme-linked plate assay, HisG bound specifically to lipopolysaccharides (LPSs) of the phiX174-sensitive strains, and did not bind to LPSs of the phiX174-insensitive strains. The truncated G protein obtained after trypsin digestion of HisG had

Lipopolysaccharide is a frequent contaminant of plasmid DNA preparations and can be toxic to primary cells in the presence of adenovirus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide, LPS) is commonly found as a contaminant in plasmid DNA preparations. We demonstrate here that the quantities of LPS typically contaminating DNA preparations can generate a toxicity to primary cells (primary human skin ...

Nanoporous Silica Embedded in Nanoporous Platinum: A Versatile Composite Coating for Implant‐Associated Drug Delivery From Neuronal Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Nanoporous silica nanoparticles incorporated in nanoporous platinum offer the possibility for implant‐associated drug delivery from neuronal electrodes. ABSTRACT Sensorineural hearing loss, resulting from damage to the hair cells of the inner ear, profoundly impairs quality of life.

Gut flora enhance bacterial clearance in lung through toll-like receptors 4

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2011
Background The influence of the gut flora on lung inflammatory reaction against bacterial challenge remains undefined. This study was designed to investigate whether gut flora enhances lung defense against E.coli pneumonia through TLR4 signaling. Methods
