DAMP Laden Extracellular Vesicles From the Airways of Patients With Severe SARS‐CoV‐2 Respiratory Infection Compromise Inflammation and Cellular Metabolism

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
Extracellular vesicles from severe COVID‐19 airways carry depleted miRNAs and elevated DAMPs, reprogramming monocytes toward senescence, impaired metabolism, and predominantly reduced cytokine responses. However, they drive excess IL‐8 production, amplifying neutrophil recruitment and dysfunctional inflammation across the respiratory tract.

RNAs Associated With Bacterial Outer Membrane Vesicles: Structural Insights Into Surface Composition

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
This work uncovers a new layer of bacterial communication. We show that RNAs, aided by the Hfq RNA‐chaperone, are not only packed inside Gram negative Outer Membrane Vesicles (OMVs) but can also be embedded in their membranes. This suggests that bacteria may use surface‐exposed RNAs to directly interact with host cells. Overall, our results broaden the

Label‐Free Clustering Analysis Platform Drives Cascaded Workflow for Scalable Production of Therapeutic Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have emerged as highly promising natural nanomedicines and nanocarriers, holding transformative potential for the treatment of various diseases. However, the lack of rapid and comprehensive characterization techniques for EV preparation analysis, coupled with the absence of efficient quality control methods ...

Endothelial Integrin‐Linked Kinase (ILK) Deficiency Promotes Endothelial Activation and Cardiovascular Dysfunction via Receptor Interacting Protein Kinase‐1 (RIPK1) Enriched‐Extracellular Vesicle Signalling

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
Endothelial ILK loss drives RIPK1‐enriched EVs that propagate systemic endothelial activation and cardiovascular remodelling. EV cargo remodelling induces early endothelial injury, microvascular dysfunction and chronic cardiac alterations through a RIPK1 dependent pathway.

Cell Envelope Remodeling and Lipid Metabolism Coordinate Extracellular Vesicle Output in Mycobacterium Tuberculosis

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Biology, Volume 5, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), remains a leading global cause of death due to the pathogen's highly adaptive physiology and its ability to manipulate host immunity. Despite extensive study, our understanding of Mtb biology during infection remains incomplete, limiting the development of new diagnostics ...
