Exogenous oxidized phytosterol may modulate linoleic acid metabolism through upregulation of fatty acid desaturase in rats

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
Abstract Previous in vitro studies have indicated that oxidized phytosterol (OPS) exhibits some toxicity; however, the harmful effects of OPS on fatty acid metabolism are not completely understood yet. Therefore, this study examined the effects of exogenous phytosterol (PS) and OPS on growth parameters and lipid metabolism in rats.

Nutraceutical Blends Promote Weight Loss, Inflammation Reduction, and Better Sleep: The Role of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii in Overweight Adults–A Double‐Blind Trial

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, EarlyView.
This study explored how a 90‐day nutraceutical blend with prebiotics, minerals, and silymarin affects the gut‐brain axis in overweight adults. Results showed improved gut microbiota, reduced inflammation, and better sleep, mood, and quality of life, suggesting a strong link between gut health and mental well‐being.

Excess Fructose Intake Activates Hyperinsulinemia and Mitogenic MAPK Pathways in Association With Cellular Stress, Inflammation, and Apoptosis in the Pancreas of Rats

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, EarlyView.
This study highlights the possible mechanisms underlying the detrimental effects of high‐fructose consumption on pancreatic function. Our findings revealed that dietary high‐fructose in the pancreas causes hyperinsulinemia due to the upregulation of glucose transporter 2 (GLUT2) together with cellular stress and inflammatory markers, thereby stimulates

Yerba Mate (Ilex paraguariensis St. Hill.) Tea May Have Cardiometabolic Beneficial Effects in Healthy and At‐Risk Subjects: A Randomized, Controlled, Blind, Crossover Trial in Nonhabitual Consumers

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, EarlyView.
Yerba mate intake shows cardiometabolic beneficial effects decreasing blood pressure, blood lipids, inflammatory biomarkers and body fat in healthy and hypercholesterolemic non‐habitual consumers. ABSTRACT Yerba mate has been reported to have antihypertensive, hypocholesterolemic, antidiabetic, or antiobesity properties.
