Molecular dynamics simulation of a model oligomer for poly(N-isopropylamide) in water [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Molecular dynamics (MD) has been used to simulate a dilute aqueous solution of a 50-units oligomer model for the thermoresponsive polymer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) at 300 and 310 K, i.e., below and above its lower critical solution temperature (LCST ...

Lower Critical Solution Temperature in Linear Polyethylene–n-Alkane Systems [PDF]

open access: yesPolymer Journal, 1973
The molecular weight dependence of the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of linear polyethylene in n-C5H12, n-C6Hu14, n-C7H16 and n-C8H18 was determined and theta temperature ΘL was obtained according to Shultz–Flory’s equation. Observed values of ΘL were compared with the values calculated by using equation-of-state parametes based on the ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

pH-sensitive tunable thermochromic hydrogel with carbon quantum dots for smart windows

open access: yesNational Science Open
Thermoresponsive hydrogels have been designed for smart windows to dynamically modulate solar radiation, but their inherent drawbacks of long response time and imperfectly matched phase transition temperature have limited their wide applications.

Noise-induced scenario for inverted phase diagrams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We introduce a class of exactly solvable models exhibiting an ordering noise-induced phase transition in which order arises as a result of a balance between the relaxing deterministic dynamics and the randomizing character of the fluctuations.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

An amphiphilic pseudo[1]catenane: neutral guest-induced clouding point change

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2018
The hydrophobic/hydrophilic ratio in a molecule largely affects its assembled properties in aqueous media. In this study, we synthesized a new bicyclic compound which could dynamically change its hydrophobic/hydrophilic ratio by chemical stimulus.

Synthesis and Characterization of New Functional Photo Cross-Linkable Smart Polymers Containing Vanillin Derivatives

open access: yesGels, 2016
The synthesis of new functional monomers based on vanillin is reported. The monomers further were used in the synthesis of different temperature-responsive photo cross-linkable polymers via free radical polymerization with N-isopropyl acrylamide and a ...

Thermo-Reversible Gelation of Aqueous Hydrazine for Safe Storage of Hydrazine

open access: yesTechnologies, 2020
A reversible gelation–release system was developed for safe storage of toxic hydrazine solution based on gelation at lower critical solution temperature (LCST).

Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy of Thermoresponsive Polymers in Aqueous Solution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The behavior of highly concentrated aqueous solutions of two thermoresponsive polymers poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm) and poly(N-vinylcaprolactam) (PVCL) have been investigated by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). Measurements have been
