Mini‐Open Versus Open Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion in Patients Aged ≥ 75 Years: Perioperative Surgical Burden and Clinical Outcomes

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
In 172 patients aged ≥ 75 years undergoing TLIF, mini‐open TLIF (MO‐TLIF) reduced perioperative burden (shorter operative time, less blood loss, lower POD3 CK) and enabled faster early pain/function recovery versus open TLIF, while 3–6 month PROMs and 12‐month fusion and satisfaction were comparable.

Global Alignment and Proportion (GAP) Score in Predicting Mechanical Complications After Long‐Segment Fixation for Chinese Geriatric Patients With Adult Degenerative Scoliosis: A Mid‐Term Comparative Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
In our study, we found that the GAP score could effectively predict the risk of mechanical complications after long‐segment fixation surgery in geriatric ADS patients. ABSTRACT Objectives The predictive value of the global alignment and proportion (GAP) score in the Chinese geriatric population, which has unique demographic and degenerative ...

A Retrospective Comparative Study on Arthroscopic‐Assisted Uni‐Portal Spinal Surgery (AUSS/UNSES) Versus Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy for Double‐Segment Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This retrospective comparative study demonstrates that Arthroscopic‐Assisted Uni‐portal Spinal Surgery (AUSS/UNSES) for double‐segment lumbar stenosis achieves equivalent 12‐month clinical outcomes to Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy (UBE), while offering significant perioperative advantages including shorter operative time, reduced drainage and ...

Annular Repair Using an All‐Suture Anchor Under Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy: Technical Note and Case Series

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Procedural Steps and Schematic Illustrations of the All‐Suture Anchor–Assisted Annular Repair. (A) Exposure of the herniated intervertebral disc. (B) Residual annular defect after removal of herniated nucleus pulposus. (C) A suture‐passing hook penetrates the superior margin of the annular defect, delivering a PDS shuttle suture.

Orthopedic Mechanophenotype: A Structured Narrative Review of Multiscale Biomechanics, Mechanotransduction, and Clinical Decision‐Making

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
The orthopedic mechanophenotype framework comprises load exposure, tissue susceptibility, and biological adaptability axes to decode mechanical‐biological crosstalk. It guides clinical phenotyping, targeted intervention, and response monitoring for orthopedic disorders beyond static morphological assessment.

Staged Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion Targeting Driver and Compensatory Structural Segments for Adult Degenerative Scoliosis: A Novel Strategy and Early Outcomes

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Targeting driver and structural vertebrae via LLIF is an effective, minimally invasive strategy for ADS. It offers substantial deformity correction, symptom relief, and progressive postoperative self‐correction while significantly reducing surgical trauma compared to traditional long‐segment fusions.

From senescence and inflammaging to systemic comorbidities: Drivers of aging‐associated periodontitis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Aging is accompanied by a chronic low‐grade inflammatory process, known as inflammaging, as well as immunosenescence, an age‐related decline and dysregulation of immune function, and cellular senescence, a process in which cells enter a state of irreversible growth arrest while actively releasing pro‐inflammatory factors.

Cerebrospinal Fluid Creatine Kinase as a Biomarker in Dogs With Neurologic Disease: A Multivariate Analysis to Guide Future Directions

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Creatine kinase (CK) is typically associated with skeletal muscle injury, but elevated CK in blood or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) may also be reflective of central nervous system damage. Previous research has therefore explored the role of CK as a biomarker of neurologic disease in veterinary patients.

The role of fenestration in acute canine thoracolumbar intervertebral disc extrusion: Part 2—The biological and biomechanical effects of fenestration

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Prophylactic fenestration is widely performed to prevent recurrence of canine acute thoracolumbar intervertebral disc extrusion (IVDE); however, there is a paucity of specific data regarding the biological and biomechanical effect of this procedure on the intervertebral disc and vertebral column.
