Soil Microbial Co‐Occurrence Networks Across Climate and Land Use Gradient in Southern Italy

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 2, April 2025.
Microbial co‐occurrence networks differ across ecosystems, with natural environments exhibiting greater complexity and resilience than agroecosystems. Soil properties like pH, organic carbon and nitrogen strongly influence network structure, highlighting the importance of sustainable land management for preserving soil health and microbial diversity ...

Genome diversity and evolution of the duckweed section Alatae comprising diploids, polyploids, and interspecific hybrids

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 122, Issue 2, April 2025.
SUMMARY The section Alatae of genus Lemna of the monocotyledonous aquatic duckweed family (Lemnaceae) consists of rather diverse accessions with unknown phylogeny and unclear taxonomic assignment. In contrast to other duckweeds, some Alatae accessions, in addition to mainly vegetative propagation, produce readily flowers and viable seeds.

Common mycorrhizal networks enhance defense responses against pathogens in neighboring plants

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 2, Issue 1, March 2025.
The common mycorrhizal networks (CMNs) provide a channel for interplant communication, which enables plants of different species to prepare for pathogen infections without direct exposure. The CMNs change the microbial abundance and community structure of the neighboring plants following pathogen infection in the donor plants, which further enhances ...
