Clinical metabolomics and nutrition: the new frontier in neonatology and pediatrics. [PDF]
In the pediatric clinic, nutritional research is focusing more and more on preventing the development of long-term diseases as well as supporting the repair processes important in the therapy of already fully developed diseases.

Ferroptosis: The Demise of Cells Through Phospholipid Peroxidation
The relative abundance of peroxidation‐resistant monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) vs. peroxidation‐sensitive polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) incorporated into phospholipid (PL) is a key determinant of ferroptosis sensitivity, as the peroxidation of PL PUFA acyl chains (PUFA‐PL) disrupts membrane integrity, causing ferroptotic cell death ...

Accumulation of alkyl-lysophosphatidylcholines in Niemann-Pick disease type C1
Lysosomal function is impaired in Niemann-Pick disease type C1 (NPC1), a rare and inherited neurodegenerative disorder, resulting in late endosomal/lysosomal accumulation of unesterified cholesterol.

Bacille Calmette-Guérin vaccine reprograms human neonatal lipid metabolism in vivo and in vitro
Summary: Vaccines have generally been developed with limited insight into their molecular impact. While systems vaccinology enables characterization of mechanisms of action, these tools have yet to be applied to infants, who are at high risk of infection

Lysophosphatidylcholine inhibits membrane‐associated SNARE complex disassembly [PDF]
AbstractIn cells, N‐ethylmaleimide‐sensitive factor (NSF) attachment protein receptors called SNAREs are involved in membrane fusion. In neurons, for example, target membrane proteins SNAP‐25 and syntaxin called t‐SNAREs present at the pre‐synaptic membrane, and a synaptic vesicle‐associated membrane protein (VAMP) or v‐SNARE, is part of the conserved ...

Discovery of Sexual Dimorphisms in Metabolic and Genetic Biomarkers [PDF]
Metabolomic profiling and the integration of whole-genome genetic association data has proven to be a powerful tool to comprehensively explore gene regulatory networks and to investigate the effects of genetic variation at the molecular level.

Research progress on biomarkers of traumatic brain injury
Traumatic brain injury: From primary insult to secondary neuroinflammation and degeneration. Abstract Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common disorder of the nervous system and has become a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, imposing a substantial burden on patients and their social circles. Its main symptoms include dyskinesia, language

Interference of lysophosphatidylcholine in hormone radioimmunoassays
Abstract The interference of synthetic and naturally occurring detergents in immunoassays is well documented. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) and found that the lysophospholipid interfered with formation of the antigen-antibody complex in hormone immunoassays.

Leucoreduction of blood components. an effective way to increase blood safety? [PDF]
Over the past 30 years, it has been demonstrated that removal of white blood cells from blood components is effective in preventing some adverse reactions such as febrile non-haemolytic transfusion reactions, immunisation against human leucocyte antigens
