M1 macrophages demonstrate lower Chlamydia load than M0 and M2 macrophages.

open access: yes, 2013
Polarized BMDM were infected for the indicated time points. (A) Chlamydia growth seen at 24 and 48 hr p.i. was significantly higher in M0 and M2 macrophages versus M1 macrophages as determined by repeated measures two-way ANOVA with Boneferroni post-test.

Mr BMT Achieves Systemic Macrophage Replacement With Preservation of Tissue Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microglia replacement by bone marrow transplantation (Mr BMT) enables systemic replacement of tissue‐resident macrophages. Despite persistent macrophage and tissue remodeling across multiple organs, core biological functions and innate immune responses remain preserved, supporting long‐term maintenance of organismal homeostasis and the therapeutic ...

Abstract 3704: Targeting M2-tumor associated macrophages (M2-TAMs) using enriched glycoproteins in lethal prostate cancer

open access: yes, 2017
Prostate cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths of men in the U.S., and in the past year, over 30,000 men died from this disease. While localized prostate cancer is highly treatable by surgical resection and radiation, cancer that has ...

Combating Inflammation and Promoting Anabolism in Osteoarthritic Cartilage Defect With an MMP13‐Sensing Dual‐Drug Scaffold

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Osteoarthritis (OA) is a widespread degenerative joint condition marked by progressive cartilage breakdown, and a chronic inflammatory microenvironment, where conventional therapies largely fail to halt disease progression. To address this unmet need, an intra‐articularly implantable, disease‐responsive scaffold was developed for combinatorial

In vitro investigation of m2 macrophage differentiation and phagocytic capabilities [PDF]

open access: yes
Amyloid-related diseases are characterised by the accumulation of extracellular β-amyloid 42 (Aβ42) plaques on specific tissues. Macrophages, a key immune system component, exhibit high plasticity and can polarise across an M1 and M2 spectrum.

Single‐Cell Dissection of Therapy‐Induced Remodeling Uncovers a Fibroblast‐Driven Immunosuppressive Niche and Targetable Vulnerabilities in Lethal Prostate Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single‐cell longitudinal profiling reveals that androgen‐deprivation therapy induces a DPT+ fibroblast‐complement axis that suppresses macrophage inflammation and drives CD8+ T cell exhaustion in prostate cancer. Concurrently, resistant epithelial subpopulations persist and engage TSPAN1‐ and NRXN1‐mediated programs promoting CRPC and neuroendocrine ...

Recent Advances in Laser‐Induced Graphene‐Based Gas Sensors: From Sensing Mechanisms to Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

CD163 protein inhibits lipopolysaccharide-induced macrophage transformation from M2 to M1 involved in disruption of the TWEAK–Fn14 interaction

open access: yesHeliyon
Macrophages play a crucial role in regulating inflammation and innate immune responses, and their polarization into distinct phenotypes, such as M1 and M2, is involved in various diseases.

TRAIP Mediates Alcohol‐Induced Liver Injury through Regulating β‐catenin Ubiquitin Degradation via Direct Interaction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that NF‐κB1‐driven TRAIP upregulation in ALD correlates with disease severity. Mechanistically, TRAIP directly binds β‐catenin via its CC domain and promotes its K48‐linked ubiquitination and degradation, which is independent of the GSK3β/β‐TrCP pathway.

Pre‐Regenerative Endothelial Cells Empowered by Antler Blood Exosomes Orchestrate Peripheral Nerve Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The pre‐regenerative vascular niche (PVN) is essential for nerve repair, yet its endothelial blueprint remains unclear. We identified angiogenic ECs (AECs) as the dominant pre‐regenerative subset and found that antler blood–derived exosomes (AB‐EXO) promote repair via IMP3.
