Persistence of Ancestral KhoeSan Mitochondrial Patterns in Contemporary South African Populations

open access: yesAnnals of Human Genetics, Volume 89, Issue 4, Page 195-207, July 2025.
Abstract Introduction Southern Africa has been inhabited by hunter‐gatherers for at least 20,000 years and has received diverse immigration flows in the last 2000 years. The original inhabitants have interacted with the pastoralist migrants from Eastern Africa (∼2000 ybp), followed by the southern Bantu migration arriving some 1000 ybp, and more ...

Metabolite‐Based Network Pharmacology, Molecular Docking, and Dynamics Simulations to Preliminarily Verify Treating Diabetic Encephalopathy Effect of Kuwanon G

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 6, June 2025.
This study investigates the neuroprotective effects of Kuwanon G (KWG) against diabetic encephalopathy (DE) by characterizing its metabolic profile and therapeutic mechanisms. Using UHPLC‐Q‐TOF‐MS, network pharmacology, molecular docking, and dynamics simulations, 56 metabolites were identified, with nine showing high intestinal absorption and ...

Galactic Globular and Open Clusters in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. I. Crowded Field Photometry and Cluster Fiducial Sequences in ugriz

open access: yes, 2008
We present photometry for globular and open cluster stars observed with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). In order to exploit over 100 million stellar objects with r < 22.5 mag observed by SDSS, we need to understand the characteristics of stars in ...

Hydromethylthionine sustains truncated tau‐dependent inflammation‐lowering effects in mouse brain

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 292, Issue 10, Page 2602-2623, May 2025.
Hydromethylthionine (HMT) is an inhibitor of tau protein aggregation, but one that appears to be affected in subjects already receiving symptomatic treatments for dementia, such as memantine. We found that HMT decreased both tau aggregation and neuroinflammation in transgenic mice in a manner that was unaffected by memantine.

The Quest for Contrast in Digital Images of Micro/Nano Structured Polymer Blends Before and After CO2 Foaming: Impact of Block Copolymer Content and Size Upon Acrylic Cellular Structures

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 5, February 5, 2025.
Analysis of morphologies via a non linear transient (time‐dependent) diffusion process of an acrylic bimodal FOAM from a nano structured blend MAM10 wt%/PMMA90 wt%. Abstract This work addresses the structural quantification of multiphase materials, here nanostructured polymer solid precursors and their micro/nano sized foamed counterparts.

New Data on Period Changes of the RR Lyrae Stars in the Globular Cluster M53 [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 2000
AbstractWe present new data on the period changes of seven RRab stars in the globular cluster M53. The most interesting result of this work is the strong evidence for cyclic period changes for more than half of the studied RR Lyrae variables.

Determination of pollen viability and germination in banana (Musa acuminata) diploids under humid tropical conditions

open access: yesReproduction and Breeding
Genetic improvement of banana (Musa acuminata) is essential to overcome the challenges that limit its sustainable production, including critical diseases such as Fusarium tropical race 4 (Foc TR4) and Black Sigatoka caused by Pseudocercospora fijiensis ...

Poly[diaquabis(μ-4-carboxy-2-propyl-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylato-κ3N3,O4:O5)calcium(II)]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2010
In the title complex, [Ca(C8H9N2O4)2(H2O)2]n, the CaII atom is eight-coordinated in a distorted square-antiprismatic environment. The water-coordinated Ca atom is N,O-chelated by the monocarboxylate anion; the carboxyl –CO2 portion engaged in ...

RPA Green's Functions of the Anisotropic Heisenberg Model

open access: yes, 2009
We solve in random-phase approximation the anisotropic Heisenberg model, including nearest and next-nearest neighbour interactions by calculating all Green's functions and pair correlation functions in a cumulant decoupling scheme. The general exposition
