A mathematical model for smooth muscle cell phenotype switching in atherosclerotic plaque [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) play a fundamental role in the development of atherosclerotic plaques. SMCs may ingest lipids in a similar way to monocyte-derived macrophages (MDMs) in the plaque. This can stimulate SMCs to undergo a phenotypic switch towards a macrophage-like phenotype.

Antigen‐Targeting Inserted Nanomicelles Guide Pre‐Existing Immunity to Kill Head and Neck Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces a tumor‐targeted nanomicelle platform (preS1‐pHLIP) that exploits pre‐existing antiviral immunity to combat heterogeneous cancers. By delivering viral antigens to label tumors as virus‐like targets, the nanomicelles activate antiviral B and T cells, triggering in situ tumor lysis.

Defining the relationship between cathepsin B and esophageal adenocarcinoma: conjoint analysis of Mendelian randomization, transcriptome-wide association studies, and single-cell RNA sequencing data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Background: Esophageal cancer poses a significant global health challenge, with the incidence of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC), a predominant subtype, increasing notably in Western countries. Cathepsins, a family of lysosomal proteolytic enzymes, have been implicated in the progression of various tumors.

NETs‐CD44‐IL‐17A Feedback Loop Drives Th17‐Mediated Inflammation in Behçet's Uveitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU), neutrophils interact with T helper 17 (Th17) cells through neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) to exert a pro‐inflammatory effect. In vitro and in vivo experiments identify that NETs promote IL‐17A secretion in Th17 cells via CD44, and increasing IL‐17A further induces more NETs formation.
