Different Infectivity of Swine Enteric Coronaviruses in Cells of Various Species

open access: yesPathogens
Swine enteric coronaviruses (SECoVs), including porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV), transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), and swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronavirus (SADS-CoV), have caused high mortality in ...

Design, Synthesis, and Biological Evaluation of EdAP, a 4′-Ethynyl-2′-Deoxyadenosine 5′-Monophosphate Analog, as a Potent Influenza a Inhibitor

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Influenza A viruses leading to infectious respiratory diseases cause seasonal epidemics and sometimes periodic global pandemics. Viral polymerase is an attractive target in inhibiting viral replication, and 4′-ethynyladenosine, which has been ...

In vitro potency test for evaluation of Clostridium perfringens type D epsilon toxoid

open access: yesArquivos do Instituto Biológico
The control of enterotoxemia caused by the epsilon toxin, produced by Clostridium perfringenstype D, is based on vaccination with epsilon toxoid. The potency test for this immunogen is conducted using seroneutralization in mice.

The Centre for Chemical Sensors and Chemical Information Technology (CCS) in Micro- and Nanotechnology

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2004
A selection of the most challenging projects in micro- and nanotechnology tackled at CCS during the last few years are discussed. The ultimate challenge was to localize voltage-gated and ligand-gated ion channels on membranes of living cells by ...

A Qualitative Change in the Transcriptome Occurs after the First Cell Cycle and Coincides with Lumen Establishment during MDCKII Cystogenesis

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Summary: Madin-Darby canine kidney II (MDCKII) cells are widely used to study epithelial morphogenesis. To better understand this process, we performed time course RNA-seq analysis of MDCKII 3D cystogenesis, along with polarized 2D cells for comparison ...

Host Adaptation and the Alteration of Viral Properties of the First Influenza A/H1N1pdm09 Virus Isolated in Japan. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
A/Narita/1/2009 (A/N) was the first H1N1 virus from the 2009 pandemic (H1pdm) to be isolated in Japan. To better understand and predict the possible development of this virus strain, the effect of passaging A/N was investigated in Madin-Darby canine ...

Development of an Enhanced High-Yield Influenza Vaccine Backbone in Embryonated Chicken Eggs

open access: yesVaccines, 2023
Vaccination is an efficient approach to preventing influenza virus infections. Recently, we developed influenza A and B virus vaccine backbones that increased the yield of several vaccine viruses in Madin–Darby canine kidney (MDCK) and African green ...

Two DNA aptamers against avian influenza H9N2 virus prevent viral infection in cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
New antiviral therapy for pandemic influenza mediated by the H9N2 avian influenza virus (AIV) is increasingly in demand not only for the poultry industry but also for public health.

Hexanematic crossover in epithelial monolayers depends on cell adhesion and cell density

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Changes in tissue geometry during developmental processes are associated with collective migration of cells. Recent experimental and numerical results suggest that these changes could leverage on the coexistence of nematic and hexatic orientational order

Characterization of Zn2+ transport in Madin-Darby canine kidney cells

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 2003
The aim of this study was to characterize the mechanism implicated in Zn(2+) transport in MDCK cells. Trace elements such as Zn(2+), Cd(2+) or Cu(2+) induced MDCK cell depolarization at the micromolar level as demonstrated by bis-oxonol fluorescence and whole-cell patch experiments.
