Characterizing the physiological roles and regulatory mechanisms of Maf1
2015Obesity has become markedly more prevalent over the past two decades among developed countries however, the molecular events that connect obesity, lipid deregulation and human diseases are still unclear. Mammalian Maf1 was initially identified as a repressor of RNA Polymerase III-transcribed genes and studies have focused on examining it?s role in ...

Beyond regulation of pol III: Role of MAF1 in growth, metabolism, aging and cancer
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Regulatory Mechanisms, 2018MAF1 was discovered as a master repressor of Pol III-dependent transcription in response to diverse extracellular signals, including growth factor, nutrient and stress. It is regulated through posttranslational mechanisms such as phosphorylation. A prominent upstream regulator of MAF1 is the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway.

Mutation in a new gene MAF1 affects tRNA suppressor efficiency in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Gene, 1997Mutation in the MAF1 gene was identified in a screen for decreased efficiency of tRNA suppressor SUP11 in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Sc). maf1-1 mutation exerts a dual phenotypic effect: antisuppression and temperature sensitive (ts) respiratory growth.

Novel roles for Maf1 in embryonic stem cell differentiation and adipogenesis
2016Maf1 represses transcription from select RNA Polymerase (Pol) II? and RNA Pol III?dependent genes. Our previous studies demonstrated that Maf1 functions as a tumor suppressor and it negatively regulates intracellular lipid accumulation. Together, these results identify Maf1 as an important link in between metabolism and cancer.
