Factors Influencing the Duration of Maintenance Therapy in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

open access: yes
Background/Objectives: Metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is mainly treated with 5-Fluoro-Uracil (5-FU), Oxaliplatin and Irinotecan chemotherapies and anti-Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) or anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF ...

Maintenance therapy in multiple myeloma

open access: yes, 2009
The treatment of multiple myeloma (MM) has changed dramatically in the past twenty years with the introduction of high-dose therapy plus autologous stem-cell transplantation (ASCT) in younger patients and, more recently, of three novel agents ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Long-Term Response after 94 Cycles of Trabectedin in a Patient with Metastatic Leiomyosarcoma of the Lower Extremity

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncology, 2020
Leiomyosarcomas of the lower extremity are extremely rare disorders and account for 10–15% of limb soft tissue sarcomas. These tumours have poor prognosis and even in early stages, patients persist at high risk for local and distant relapse; consequently,

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Cytokines in hepatitis C-infected patients with or without opioid maintenance therapy [PDF]

open access: yes
Objective: Both chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and opioids cause altered blood levels of cytokines. Previous studies have investigated levels of selected groups of cytokines in patients on opioid maintenance treatment.

Rational and safe dosing of phenprocoumon during loading and maintenance phase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Phenprocoumon is the second most commonly used oral anticoagulant worldwide and the most common agent in many European countries including Switzerland. Given its long half-life of about one week, an initial loading-dose is generally applied. A high

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
