Synthesis of the WXYZA′ Domain of Maitotoxin [PDF]
A synthesis of the WXYZA' domain (7) of the marine neurotoxin maitotoxin (1) is reported. The convergent synthetic strategy involves construction of key building blocks 11 and 12, their coupling, and the elaboration of the resulting ester (10) to the target molecule through a ring-closing metathesis and a hydroxy dithioketal cyclization as the key ...

Maitotoxin, a potent, general activator of phosphoinositide breakdown [PDF]
Maitotoxin (MTX), a potent marine toxin, elicits a calcium‐dependent activation of cells that can be inhibited by calcium channel blockers like nifedipine. MTX also stimulates phosphoinositide breakdown in smooth muscle cells, NCB‐20 cells and PC12 cells through a nifedipine‐insensitive mechanism.

Alternative method to detect compounds produced by Gambierdiscus spp.
Ciguatoxins (CTXs) and CTX precursors are produced by several Gambierdiscus spp. These polyether toxins are associated to ciguatera fish poisoning (CFP). In addition to CTX, maitotoxins (MTX) and gambierol are also produced by these dinoflagellates.

Synthesis of the C′D′E′F′ Domain of Maitotoxin [PDF]
A devised biomimetic strategy toward the C'D'E'F' domain (6) of maitotoxin (1) led to hydroxy triepoxide 8 as a postulated polyepoxide precursor. However, all attempts to induce the desired cascade to form the targeted compound through a zip-type reaction under neutral or acidic conditions failed, prompting adoption of a linear stepwise approach to 6 ...

Further Advance of Gambierdiscus Species in the Canary Islands, with the First Report of Gambierdiscus belizeanus [PDF]
Ciguatera Poisoning (CP) is a human food-borne poisoning that has been known since ancient times to be found mainly in tropical and subtropical areas, which occurs when fish or very rarely invertebrates contaminated with ciguatoxins (CTXs) are consumed ...

Synthesis of the ABCDEFG Ring System of Maitotoxin [PDF]
Maitotoxin (1) continues to fascinate scientists not only because of its size and potent neurotoxicity but also due to its molecular architecture. To provide further support for its structure and facilitate fragment-based biological studies, we developed an efficient chemical synthesis of the ABCDEFG segment 3 of maitotoxin.

Assessment of cytotoxicity in ten strains of Gambierdiscus australes from Macaronesian Islands by neuro-2a cell-based assays [PDF]
Within the dinoflagellate genus Gambierdiscus several species are well-known producers of ciguatoxins (CTXs) and maitotoxins (MTXs). These compounds are potent marine toxins that accumulate through the food chain, leading to a foodborne disease known as ...

Contribution to the risk assessment of ciguatera poisoning in europe (the balearic and Canary Islands and Madeira archipelago) [PDF]
