A Structural Bridge Between Kingdoms: How Collagen‐Derived Peptides Influence Plant Stress and Growth Pathways

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 177, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
ABSTRACT Collagen‐derived protein hydrolysates (CDPH) are widely used as plant biostimulants primarily due to their content of bioactive oligopeptides. When applied to hydroponically grown Solanum lycopersicum plants, CDPH significantly promoted root development, particularly by increasing the number and length of lateral roots.

O‐GalNAc Glycosylation Activates MBL‐Mediated Complement and Coagulation Cascades to Drive Organotropic Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 32, August 28, 2025.
Upregulated glycosyltransferase GALNT9 in neuroendocrine (NE) carcinomas increases O‐GalNAc glycosylation on cell membrane proteins, particularly Annexin‐A2 (ANXA2). Elevated O‐GalNAc glycan induces the binding of NE cancer cells to mannose binding lectin 2 (MBL2), activating the MBL‐MBL associated serine protease (MBL‐MASP) complement pathway in the ...

GMP‐Compliant Process for the Manufacturing of an Extracellular Vesicles‐Enriched Secretome Product Derived From Cardiovascular Progenitor Cells Suitable for a Phase I Clinical Trial

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicle (EV)‐enriched secretomes are emerging as a new and innovative therapeutic option in the field of regenerative medicine. The clinical use of EV‐enriched secretome‐based products requires manufacturing processes and quality control (QC) testing that comply with current good manufacturing practice (GMP).

High production MBL2 polymorphisms protect against COVID-19 complications in critically ill patients: A retrospective cohort study

open access: yesHeliyon
Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) binds to SARS-CoV-2, inhibits infection of susceptible cells, and activates the complement system via the lectin pathway. In this study, we investigated the association of MBL2 polymorphisms with the risk of hospitalization ...

MASP-2 Is a Heparin-Binding Protease; Identification of Blocking Oligosaccharides

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
It is well-known that heparin and other glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) inhibit complement activation. It is however not known whether fractionation and/or modification of GAGs might deliver pathway-specific inhibition of the complement system.

A homing receptor-IgG chimera as a probe for adhesive ligands of lymph node high endothelial venules. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The binding of lymphocytes to high endothelial venules (HEV) within peripheral lymph nodes (pln) is thought to be mediated by a lectinlike adhesion molecule termed the pln homing receptor (pln HR). The cloning and sequencing of cDNAs encoding both murine

Sugary interfaces mitigate contact damage where stiff meets soft [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The byssal threads of the fan shell Atrina pectinata are non-living functional materials intimately associated with living tissue, which provide an intriguing paradigm of bionic interface for robust load-bearing device.

Polymicrobial Biofilms: Interkingdom Interactions, Resistance and Therapeutic Strategies

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2025.
Polymicrobial biofilms: interkingdom interactions, resistance and therapeutic stratergies. This review highlights the heightened drug resistance and complexity of polymicrobial biofilms, emphasising their persistence over mono‐species counterparts. It explores microbial interactions, resistance mechanisms and emerging strategies, including metabolite ...

The Emerging Role of Complement Lectin Pathway in Trypanosomatids: Molecular Bases in Activation, Genetic Deficiencies, Susceptibility to Infection, and Complement System-Based Therapeutics

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
The innate immune system is evolutionary and ancient and is the pivotal line of the host defense system to protect against invading pathogens and abnormal self-derived components. Cellular and molecular components are involved in recognition and effector
