Status quo and future developments in the diagnosis and treatment of hereditary angioedema

open access: yesJDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, EarlyView.
Summary Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare hereditary disease characterized by edema, which can be life‐threatening in case of swelling in the larynx. The most common form of HAE is caused by a mutation of the SERPING1 gene and is characterized by a deficiency (type I) or loss of function (type II) of the C1 inhibitor (C1‐INH), leading to excessive ...

Blood group O expression in normal tissues and tumors

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
The H antigen (O blood group), the precursor to A and B blood groups, is expressed on human erythrocytes. Two novel monoclonal antibodies generated using sea lamprey immunization, Tn4‐31L and OmcFL3‐02, specifically detect the H antigen on glycan microarrays, glycoproteins, and human cells.

Structural insights into how vacuolar sorting receptor recognizes the C‐terminal sorting determinant of a vicilin‐like seed storage protein

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Soluble cargo proteins are sorted to the vacuoles via a receptor‐mediated mechanism. Combining crystallographic and mutagenesis studies, we showed how the C‐terminal sorting determinant (ctVSD) of vicilin‐like seed storage protein VL22 is recognized by the protease‐associated domain of Arabidopsis vacuolar‐sorting receptor 1.

Lung organoids as a human system for Mycobacteria infection modeling and drug testing

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Mycobacterial infections, including tuberculosis (TB) and infections by nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), are still public health issues. In 2023, TB caused 1.25 million deaths, while NTM remain a clinical challenge for patients with cystic fibrosis (CF).

A short peptide derived from late embryogenesis abundant proteins enhances acid tolerance in Escherichia coli via modulation of two‐component regulatory systems

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Expression of the LEA‐K peptide in E. coli BL21 (DE3) improved bacterial viability under acidic stress (pH4), suggesting a protective function. RNA‐sequencing of LEA‐K‐expressing vs. non‐expressing cells revealed 283 differentially expressed genes (DEGs). In silico docking linked LEA‐K to two‐component systems (TCS) proteins (Rcs, BtsS/R, and EnvZ/OmpR)
