A study of vaccination against Marek's disease with an attenuated Marek's disease virus
Avian Pathology, 1974Approximately 2,000 day-old white leghorn chickens were distributed into 10 pens and half the pens vaccinated with the attenuated strain of HPRS-16. At 72 weeks of age, mortality from non-specific death and Marek's disease was 17.6% and 15.6% respectively, in vaccinated chickens compared with 14.2% and 51.7% in unvaccinated chickens.

Field Trials of Vaccines for Marek's Disease
Avian Diseases, 1971SUMMARY Seventeen field trials involving 391,202 birds were carried out in North Georgia to evaluate experimental vaccines for Marek's disease. Herpesvirus vaccines of both turkey and chicken origin were found to be "safe" with respect to their lack of any oncogenic ability in vaccinated birds. However, only the turkey herpesviruses (Georgia strain WHG

A standard vaccine against Marek's disease
Comparative Immunology, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 1978Abstract HVT-7, the standard vaccine against MD, was prepared from HVT strain FC126 grown in fibroblast cultures from SPF embryos. Ampoules of freeze dried material were prepared from a cell free suspension of virus in a solution of SPGA. The vaccine is stored at −20°C.

Vaccination against Marek’s Disease
1986Marek’s disease is a serious lymphoproliferative disease of the fowl which affects most organs and tissues but has an unusual predilection for peripheral nerves. The disease varies in severity ranging in extremes from the chronic disease, in which peripheral nerve involvement and paralytic signs are the most conspicuous features, to an acute ...

Efficacy of a bivalent vaccine against Marek's disease
Research in Veterinary Science, 1987A bivalent vaccine was prepared by combining inactivated Marek's disease virus and turkey herpesvirus. The efficacy of this vaccine, compared to turkey herpesvirus and inactivated Marek's disease virus separately, was studied in unsexed White Leghorn chicks which were vaccinated at one day old and then challenged at 21 days old with fowl blood infected

Duration of Vaccinal Immunity against Marek's Disease
Avian Diseases, 1978Specific vaccinal immunity against Marek's disease (MD) virus was measured by a short-term challenge test in which chickens vaccinated with turkey herpesvirus (HVT) and control chickens at various ages up to 40 weeks were inoculated with virulent MD virus and evaluated 2 weeks later for microscopic lesions and MD viremia.

Marek's disease in turkeys: Lack of protection by vaccination
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1982SUMMARY Herpesvirus of turkeys, a highly effective vaccine against Marek's disease (md) in chickens, was ineffective in protecting turkeys against md. Another tissue-culture attenuated vaccine virus also protected chickens, but not turkeys, from md. Intact and immunosuppressed turkey poults inoculated with herpesvirus of turkey developed a persistent ...

Control of Marek's Disease by Vaccination
World's Poultry Science Journal, 1973There are three types of vaccines presently available for the control of Marek's disease (MD), namely the apathogenic MD viruses that spread horizonatlly, the altered viruses that do not spread and...

A comparison of titration methods for Marek's disease vaccines
Journal of Biological Standardization, 1979Factors associated with the in vitro assay system used for the titration of Marek's disease vaccines were examined for their influence on plaque counts. Results showed that primary chick embryo fibroblasts (CEF) were more sensitive to HVT than secondary CEF and that these cells were more susceptible when approximately 24 h old at the time of infection.
