Spironolactone Attenuates Experimental Uremic Cardiomyopathy by Antagonizing Marinobufagenin

open access: yes, 2009
Spironolactone has been noted to attenuate cardiac fibrosis. We have observed that the cardiotonic steroid marinobufagenin plays an important role in the diastolic dysfunction and cardiac fibrosis seen with experimental renal failure.

The Na(+)K(+)-ATPase Inhibitor marinobufagenin and early cardiovascular risk in humans: A review of recent evidence

open access: yes, 2019
Purpose of Review This review synthesizes recent findings in humans pertaining to the relationships between marinobufagenin (MBG), a steroidal Na+/K+-ATPase inhibitor and salt-sensitivity biomarker, and early cardiovascular risk markers.

The role of Angiotensin converting Enzyme 2 and Marinobufagenin in Leptin induced Hypertension and Proteinuria during Pregnancy in Sprague Dawley Rats / Maryam Jameelah Md Hassan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Leptin administration to pregnant rats increases systolic blood pressure (SBP), urinary protein excretion and markers of endothelial activation. Although the precise mechanism for this remains unclear, marinobufagenin (MBG) has been implicated in some ...

Large artery stiffness is associated with marinobufagenin in young adults: the African-PREDICT study

open access: yes, 2018
Objectives: The cardiotonic steroid, marinobufagenin (MBG), has been shown to play a physiological natriuretic role in response to salt intake. However, recent studies in clinical and animal models demonstrated possible links between elevated levels of ...

Endogenous sodium pump inhibitors: common pathogenetic mechanisms of impaired glucose tolerance and preeclampsia

open access: yes, 2017
Aim. Study of the influence of sodium chloride overconsumption by pregnant rats with induced diabetes mellitus on the synthesis of marinobufagenin and Na/K-ATPase activity. Methods. The study was performed on 72 female Sprague Dawley rats.

Reduction of Na/K-ATPase Potentiates Marinobufagenin-induced Cardiac Dysfunction and Myocyte Apoptosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Decreases in cardiac Na/K-ATPase have been documented in patients with heart failure. Reduction of Na/K-ATPase alpha 1 also contributes to the deficiency in cardiac contractility in animal models.

Marinobufagenin : a new diagnosis target for preeclampsia syndrome?

open access: yes, 2013
The bufadienolides, belonging to the cardiac glycosides class are present in humans as well as in some plants and animals. But the major source for these compounds is located in the parotid and skin gland secretions of some toad species, notably Bufo ...

Analytical aspects of marinobufagenin and its applications in the diagnosis of preeclampsia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Introduction Marinobufagenin (MBG), a bufadienolide cardiac inotrope, enjoys a growing interest in the early diagnosis of volume expansion-mediated hypertensive states such as preeclampsia (PE).
