Mass Spectrometry Imaging Reveals Spatial Metabolic Alterations and Salidroside’s Effects in Diabetic Encephalopathy

open access: yesMetabolites
Background: Diabetic encephalopathy (DE) is a neurological complication of diabetes marked by cognitive decline and complex metabolic disturbances. Salidroside (SAL), a natural compound with antioxidant and neuroprotective properties, has shown promise ...

Radioisotopic purity and imaging properties of cyclotron-produced 99mTc using direct 100Mo(p,2n) reaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Evaluation of the radioisotopic purity of technetium-99m (99mTc) produced in GBq amounts by proton bombardment of enriched molibdenum-100 (100Mo) metallic targets at low proton energies (i.e. within 15\u201320 MeV) is conducted.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

One section, two worlds: single-cell integration of MALDI-MSI and spatial transcriptomics on the same single tissue section

open access: yesScientific Reports
Understanding tissue complexity requires spatially resolved multi-omics data at single-cell resolution. Here, we present a workflow integrating high-resolution matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI) with Xenium ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Multimodal Imaging of Metals in a Retinal Degeneration Model to Inform on Ocular Disease

open access: yesAnalytica, 2023
The metallome has been involved in the pathological investigation into ocular tissue for decades; however, as technologies advance, more information can be ascertained from individual tissue sections that were not previously possible.

Recent advances in experimental techniques to probe fast excited-state dynamics in biological molecules in the gas phase : dynamics in nucleotides, amino acids and beyond [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In many chemical reactions, an activation barrier must be overcome before a chemical transformation can occur. As such, understanding the behaviour of molecules in energetically excited states is critical to understanding the chemical changes that these ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
