Placental Matrix Metalloproteinase—1 Expression Is Increased in Labor
Reproductive Sciences, 2008Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are now known to process a broad spectrum of cell surface molecules and to function in several important biological processes. Testing for differences in gene expression in human placental chorionic villi in the absence or presence of labor, using cDNA microarray analysis, revealed that labor was associated with ...

Inhibition of Matrix Metalloproteinase-1 by Dichloromethylene Bisphosphonate (Clodronate)
Calcified Tissue International, 1997Interstitial collagenase present in human jaw cyst extract and purified human fibroblast-type collagenase (MMP-1) were both efficiently inhibited in vitro by clodronate, an osteoactive, antiresorptive bisphosphonate. The IC50 of clodronate to inhibit MMP-1 is 150 microM.

Metal Ion Dependence of the Matrix Metalloproteinase-1 Mechanism
Biochemistry, 2015Matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) plays crucial roles in disease-related physiologies and pathological processes in the human body. We report here solution studies of MMP-1, including characterization of a series of mutants designed to bind metal in either the catalytic site or the structural site (but not both).

Journal of Periodontal Research, 2010
Our previous studies have shown that a single nucleotide polymorphism at nucleotide -1607 of the human matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) promoter is associated with the severity of periodontal disease. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of different MMP-1 promoter genotypes on interleukin-1beta-induced MMP-1 production in human ...

Serum matrix metalloproteinase‐1 in patients with chronic viral hepatitis
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, 1999Background and Aims: Previously we found that serum matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)‐1 activity decreased with progression of chronic liver disease. Our objectives in the present study were to observe the change in the serum MMP‐1 protein concentration using recently developed specific enzyme immunoassays for MMP‐1 and MMP‐1 complexed with tissue ...

Matrix metalloproteinase-1 polymorphism in Taiwanese patients with endobronchial tuberculosis
Tuberculosis, 2008Endobronchial tuberculosis (TB) often leads to some degree of tracheobronchial stenosis. Because matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play an essential role in tissue remodeling in the airways, we investigated the role of MMP-1 polymorphism in patients with endobronchial TB. One hundred and one cases of pulmonary TB in Taiwanese patients were genotyped for

Conformational Dynamics of Matrix Metalloproteinase-1·Triple-Helical Peptide Complexes
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2017Matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) is a zinc-dependent protease that catalyzes hydrolysis of interstitial collagens. A previously reported X-ray crystallographic structure revealed specific interactions between a triple-helical peptide (THP) model of interstitial collagen and the hemopexin-like (HPX) and catalytic (CAT) domains of MMP-1.

Brain matrix metalloproteinase 1 levels are elevated in Alzheimer's disease
Neuroscience Letters, 2000Several lines of evidence indicate that there may be an inflammatory component to the pathology of Alzheimer's disease (AD), the major form of degenerative dementia in the elderly. Activity of inflammatory cells, and the elaboration of toxic molecules by such cells may be a significant factor in disease progression.

Matrix Metalloproteinase-1 Inhibitory Activity of Kaempferia pandurata Roxb.
Journal of Medicinal Food, 2009Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-1 is a superfamily of zinc-dependent endopeptidases that are capable of degrading all components of the extracellular matrix. Kaempferia pandurata extract (0.01-0.5 microg/mL) significantly reduced the expression of MMP-1 and induced the expression of type 1 procollagen at the protein and mRNA levels in a dose-dependent ...

Matrix Metalloproteinase-1 and Cytokines in Patients with Acute Pancreatitis
Pancreas, 2003Hypercytokinemia is known to occur in severe acute pancreatitis, suggesting that the production, deposition, and degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM) occur actively as a result of the actions of the complicated cytokine network. To examine the influence of cytokines and growth factors on the ECM in acute pancreatitis from the points of view of ...
