Multi-Layered Matrix Tablets with Various Tablet Designs and Release Profiles

Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation, 2011
Tablet dosage forms have been preferred over other formulations for the oral drug administration due to their low manufacturing costs and ease of administrations, especially controlled-release applications. Controlled-release tablets are oral dosage forms from which the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) is released over an intended or extended ...

In vivo/in vitro correlations of nitrofurantoin matrix tablet formulations

European Journal of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, 1996
In our recent study, a new sustained release dosage form of nitrofurantoin (nft) as matrix tablets by 2(2) factorial design has been prepared by using different drug:polymer ratios. The effect of the polyvinylpyrolidone contents of nft matrix tablets on dissolution rate and bioavailability of the drug have been evaluated.

Sustained delivery of captopril from floating matrix tablets

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2008
The development of a controlled release formulation of captopril has been a challenge for some time. In this work, the in vitro sustained release of captopril from Metolose SH 4000 SR/sodium bicarbonate floating tablets has been studied, varying the proportions of Metolose and bicarbonate. This was studied at two different compaction pressures.

Formulation and Evaluation of Methocel K15M Bioadhesive Matrix Tablets

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2000
Methocel K15M is a bioadhesive polymer. Its adhesion and bioadhesion characteristics were evaluated by shear stress measurement and detachment force measurement methods, respectively. The effect of pH on adhesion was studied, and it was found that the maximum adhesion was between pH 5 and pH 6.

Mathematical models for the release of drugs from matrix tablets

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1978
AbstractA previously derived cubic equation describing the release of drugs from matrix tablets is compared with a more complex equation recently presented. Using data obtained from cylindrical hydrocortisone matrix tablets, it is shown that the simpler cubic equation affords an equally acceptable description of drug release. Because the cubic equation

Release of Pentoxifylline from Xanthan Gum Matrix Tablets

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2003
Pentoxifylline-controlled release tablets were prepared using xanthan gum. The effects of polymer concentration, rotation speed, ionic strength, and pH of the dissolution medium on the release of the water-soluble pentoxifylline were studied. The release rate decreased with increasing polymer concentration in the tablet, which was reflected in the ...

Use of chitosonium malate as a matrix in sustained-release tablets

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 1993
Abstract A salt of chitosan (chitosonium malate) was examined as a matrix for sustained-release tablets. Furosemide was chosen as a model drug in this study. Sustained-release tablets were prepared by direct compression and wet-granulation techniques. Sustained-release properties of chitosan and chitosonium malate were compared.
