Incorporating economic multipliers in a bid adjustment algorithm for public food procurement decision making

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract We present an adjusted bid price mechanism that incorporates economic multiplier effects in public food procurement decision making. Under Input–Output model assumptions, the algorithm estimates enhanced tax revenues to state governments through multiplier effects associated with in‐state supplier purchasing.

Interpretable Mechanistic Representations for Meal-level Glycemic Control in the Wild [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Diabetes encompasses a complex landscape of glycemic control that varies widely among individuals. However, current methods do not faithfully capture this variability at the meal level. On the one hand, expert-crafted features lack the flexibility of data-driven methods; on the other hand, learned representations tend to be uninterpretable which ...

Biomass‐Derived Metal‐Free Nanostructured Carbon Electrocatalysts for High‐Performance Rechargeable Zinc–Air Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
The study discusses synthesis strategies of metal‐free heteroatom‐doped nanocarbon materials from biomass for use in rechargeable zinc–air batteries. It also covers the significance of these materials as electrocatalysts and electrodes for improving the oxygen reduction and evolution reactionsin.

How Asian slum emissions impact local microclimates in polluted air masses

open access: yesAtmospheric Science Letters, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Cook stove emissions over urban sprawl in South India and expected microphysical implications. Combustion‐mediated soot and black carbon from biomass burning in shantytowns modulate the local cloud cover. Abstract Urban sprawl comprising densely populated slums over South Asian cities yields copious amounts of soot and black carbon from archaic cooking

The Art of Food: Meal Image Synthesis from Ingredients [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
In this work we propose a new computational framework, based on generative deep models, for synthesis of photo-realistic food meal images from textual descriptions of its ingredients. Previous works on synthesis of images from text typically rely on pre-trained text models to extract text features, followed by a generative neural networks (GANs) aimed ...

A Family Meal as Fiction [PDF]

open access: yesOrganon F, 2020
Stacie Friend's theory of fiction departs from those ap- proaches that seek to identify the necessary and sufficient conditions for a work to count as fiction. She argues that this goal cannot really be achieved; instead, she appeals to the notion of genre to distinguish between fiction and nonfiction.
