Revving up dendritic cells while braking PD-L1 to jump-start the cancer-immunity cycle motor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Although it is successful for some, most melanoma patients are refractory to T cell checkpoint inhibition. In this issue of Immunity, Merad and colleagues (2016) describe a dendritic-cell-based strategy to heighten the efficacy of therapeutic anti-PD-L1 ...

Effect of hyperthermia on experimental choroidal melanoma. [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Ophthalmology, 1985
Thirty-five rabbit eyes were implanted subchoroidally with Greene's hamster melanoma. When the tumours reached a base diameter of 5 mm, they were treated with ultrasonically induced hyperthermia with a range of temperatures and exposure durations (43-67 degrees C and 75 s to 60 min).

Adaptor protein CIN85 potentiates the motility of osteosarcoma cells via the Akt/mTOR and MMP2‐COL3A1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CIN85 is highly expressed in osteosarcoma, particularly in metastatic lesions. Its overexpression increases cell migration and Matrigel invasion, while silencing CIN85 suppresses these behaviors. Transcriptome analysis shows that CIN85 regulates MMP2, COL3A1, and Akt/mTOR signaling. Targeting these pathways reverses CIN85‐induced motility, highlighting

Systems analysis identifies melanoma-enriched pro-oncogenic networks controlled by the RNA binding protein CELF1

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Hundreds of mRNA binding proteins (mRBPs) have been described in mammalian cells. Here, the authors identify RBPs differentially regulated in melanoma, and show the RBP CELF1 controlling a distinct set of protumorigenic factors.

A country-wide teledermatoscopy service in Estonia shows results comparable to those in experimental settings in management plan development and diagnostic accuracy: A retrospective database studyCapsule Summary

open access: yesJAAD International, 2023
Background: Teledermatoscopy accuracy has been examined in experimental settings and is recommended for primary care despite lacking real-world implementation evidence. A teledermatoscopy service has been provided in Estonia since 2013, where lesions are

Inference of the drivers of collective movement in two cell types: Dictyostelium and melanoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Collective cell movement is a key component of many important biological processes, including wound healing, the immune response and the spread of cancers.

Immunohistochemical Characterization of Experimental Greene Melanoma

open access: yesOphthalmic Research, 1992
20 experimental amelanotic Greene melanomas implanted into the anterior chamber of rabbit eyes were examined immunohistochemically in paraffin sections. All the Greene melanomas were found to be positive for vimentin, S-100 and HMB 45 and negative for alpha-human chorionic gonadotropin, neuron-specific enolase, chromogranin, synaptophysin, cytokeratin,

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Systemic Chemotherapy Is Modulated by Platelet-Activating Factor-Receptor Agonists

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2015
Chemotherapy is used to treat numerous cancers including melanoma. However, its effectiveness in clinical settings is often hampered by various mechanisms.

Growth and apoptosis pathways in human cutaneous melanoma: in vitro and in vivo studies by using biological and proteomics approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Purpose. Melanoma is the most aggressive cutaneous cancer without effective treatment. Diagnosis is achieved very often too late and prognosis is poor.
