Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Metabolomic signatures in liquid biopsy are associated with overall survival in metastatic melanoma patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research
Background Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), such as anti-Cytotoxic T-Lymphocyte Antigen 4(CTLA-4) and anti-Programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) agents, have improved the prognosis of patients with metastatic melanoma.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Developing a risk score using liquid biopsy biomarkers for selecting Immunotherapy responders and stratifying disease progression risk in metastatic melanoma patients

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research
Background Despite the high response rate to PD-1 blockade therapy in metastatic melanoma (MM) patients, a significant proportion of patients do not respond.

FRIZZLED7 Is Required for Tumor Initiation and Metastatic Growth of Melanoma Cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Metastases are thought to arise from cancer stem cells and their tumor initiating abilities are required for the establishment of metastases. Nevertheless, in metastatic melanoma, the nature of cancer stem cells is under debate and their contribution to ...

Adenoviral targeting of malignant melanoma for fluorescence-guided surgery prevents recurrence in orthotopic nude-mouse models. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Malignant melanoma requires precise resection in order to avoid metastatic recurrence. We report here that the telomerase-dependent, green fluorescent protein (GFP)-containing adenovirus OBP-401 could label malignant melanoma with GFP in situ in ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Identification of TUBB4A as a Prognostic Biomarker of Melanoma by Transcriptomic Data and Experiments

open access: yesTechnology in Cancer Research & Treatment, 2023
Background: Melanoma is one of the most malignant skin carcinomas with high metastatic potential. Increasing evidence has demonstrated that β-tubulin 4A (TUBB4A) plays a key role in the development and progression of several types of human cancer ...

Redox signals at the ER-mitochondria interface control melanoma progression.

open access: yes, 2019
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are emerging as important regulators of cancer growth and metastatic spread. However, how cells integrate redox signals to affect cancer progression is not fully understood.
