L-Type Amino Acid Transporter-1 Overexpression and Melphalan Sensitivity in Barrett's Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2004
The L-type amino acid transporter-1 (LAT-1) has been associated with tumor growth. Using cDNA microarrays, overexpression of LAT-1 was found in 87.5% (7/8) of esophageal adenocarcinomas relative to 12 Barrett's samples (33% metaplasia and 66% dysplasia ...

Comparison of the Lonidamine Potentiated Effect of Nitrogen Mustard Alkylating Agents on the Systemic Treatment of DB-1 Human Melanoma Xenografts in Mice. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Previous NMR studies demonstrated that lonidamine (LND) selectively diminishes the intracellular pH (pHi) of DB-1 melanoma and mouse xenografts of a variety of other prevalent human cancers while decreasing their bioenergetic status (tumor βNTP/Pi ratio)

Ice-cream used as cryotherapy during high-dose melphalan conditioning reduces oral mucositis after autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Oral mucositis (OM) is one of the most frequent adverse events of high-dose conditioning chemotherapy with melphalan prior to autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT). It significantly reduces the patients’ quality of life.

Microrobotic Catheterization of the Ophthalmic Artery for Targeted Treatment of Retinoblastoma

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A microrobotic platform is presented that allows teleoperated and autonomous navigation of flow‐driven magnetic microcatheters, MagFlow, into the ophthalmic artery for superselective intra‐arterial infusion of chemotherapy to treat retinoblastoma. Extensive benchtop validations with patient‐derived biomimetic phantoms under optical and fluoroscopic ...

Determinants of Long‐Term Benefit From High Dose Melphalan With Autologous Stem Cell Transplant in AL Amyloidosis

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT High dose melphalan (HDM) with autologous stem cell transplant is an established treatment for systemic light chain amyloidosis, but its incremental benefit in the era of effective standard intensity therapy is unknown. We retrospectively analyzed 475 transplant‐eligible patients who completed standard intensity treatment with or without HDM ...

Melphalan improves toxicity of arsenic trioxide in adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma cells

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports
Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is a hematologic neoplasm with poor prognosis. Melphalan is an alkylating anti-cancer agent, and arsenic trioxide (ATO) is routine chemotherapy drug for ATLL with low response rate.

The Changing Landscape of Maintenance Therapy in Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma: A Systematic Review With Network Meta‐Analysis of the European Myeloma Network (EMN)

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
Our meta‐analysis showed significant improvement of PFS with lenalidomide, proteasome inhibitors, and CD38‐based therapies. A significant OS benefit was noted only with lenalidomide in transplant‐eligible (TE) patients, while CD38‐directed therapy showed a trend toward improved OS.
