Human membrane cofactor protein (MCP, CD46): multiple isoforms and functions

The International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology, 1999
Human membrane cofactor protein (MCP, CD46) is a 45-70 kDa protein with genetic and tissue-specific heterogeneity, and is expressed on all nucleated cells. MCP consists from N-terminus of 4 short consensus repeats (SCRs), 1-3 serine/threonine-rich (ST) domains, a transmembrane domain (TM) and a cytoplasmic tail (CYT). More than 8 isoforms are generated

Production and characterization of a pig line transgenic for human membrane cofactor protein

Xenotransplantation, 2002
A pig line transgenic for human membrane cofactor protein (hMCP) has been established. Offspring from the founder were produced by crossing the founder with pigs heterozygous for the human decay accelerating factor (hDAF) transgene. As a result, pigs transgenic for both hMCP and hDAF have been produced.

Glycosylation of membrane cofactor protein (CD46) in human trophoblast, kidney and platelets

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure and Molecular Enzymology, 1992
Many cell surface glycoconjugates are differentiation markers and are involved in cell-cell and intermolecular interactions in development, immunity and cancer. Membrane cofactor protein (MCP) comprises structurally related 65 and 55 kDa glycoproteins that bear O- and N-linked glycans. MCP prevents amplification of autologous complement action on human

Characterization of CR1- and membrane cofactor protein-like proteins of two primates.

The Journal of Immunology, 1990
Abstract We have identified and characterized C3b binding proteins of two primates, orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) and gorilla (Gorilla gorilla). Detergent solubilized 125I surface-labeled E and PBMC were subjected to affinity chromatography with homologous or human iC3/C3b. These ligands bound a 225,000 single chain protein from orangutan E

The Contribution of a Covalently Bound Cofactor to the Folding and Thermodynamic Stability of an Integral Membrane Protein

Journal of Molecular Biology, 2010
The factors controlling the stability, folding, and dynamics of integral membrane proteins are not fully understood. The high stability of the membrane protein bacteriorhodopsin (bR), an archetypal member of the rhodopsin photoreceptor family, has been ascribed to its covalently bound retinal cofactor.

Membrane Attack Complex and Membrane Cofactor Protein Are Related to Tubulointerstitial Inflammation in Various Human Glomerulopathies

Nephron, 1997
Immunohistochemical analysis of the membrane attack complex (MAC) and the membrane cofactor protein (MCP) was performed on the tubuli and cortical vessels of 46 kidney biopsies with various types of human glomerulopathies. Irrespective of the type of glomerulopathy, significant correlations between tubular MAC and interstitial lymphomonocyte ...

Human astrocytes express membrane cofactor protein (CD46), a regulator of complement activation

Journal of Neuroimmunology, 1992
Expression of membrane cofactor protein (CD46) on cultured human astrocytes was demonstrated by indirect immunofluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry following staining with a monoclonal antibody specific for CD46. Western transfer and immunoblotting detected a doublet of Mr 66,000 and 56,000.
