Unraveling the Role of MDK‐SDC4 Interaction in Pancreatic Cancer‐Associated New‐Onset Diabetes by Single‐Cell Transcriptomic Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Midkine (MDK) is a mediator of the interaction between pancreatic cancer and beta cells. MDK, which originated from pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma cells, exerted deleterious effects on paraneoplastic beta cells by binding to the SDC4 receptor on the beta cell surface and subsequently downregulating the Ras signaling pathway, thereby impairing insulin

Does ankylosing spondylitis exert a bidirectional influence on hypertension? A two-sample Mendelian randomization study

open access: yesSAGE Open Medicine
Objective: Previous observational studies reported that ankylosing spondylitis is closely related to hypertension. However, it is still controversial whether the association between ankylosing spondylitis and hypertension is causal.

Alnustone Ameliorates Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease by Facilitating Mitochondrial Fatty Acid β‐Oxidation via Targeting Calmodulin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies alnustone, a natural compound from Alpinia katsumadai, as a potent therapeutic agent for MASLD and MASH. Alnustone enhances mitochondrial fatty acid β‐oxidation by directly targeting calmodulin, improving liver steatosis, fibrosis, and insulin resistance in vivo.

Mendelian randomization with invalid instruments: effect estimation and bias detection through Egger regression

open access: yesInternational Journal of Epidemiology, 2015
Background: The number of Mendelian randomization analyses including large numbers of genetic variants is rapidly increasing. This is due to the proliferation of genome-wide association studies, and the desire to obtain more precise estimates of causal ...

Associations of Visceral Adipose Tissue, Circulating Protein Biomarkers, and Risk of Cardiovascular Diseases: A Mendelian Randomization Analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2022
Aim: To evaluate the genetic associations of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) mass with metabolic risk factors and cardiovascular disease (CVD) endpoints and to construct a network analysis about the underlying mechanism using Mendelian randomization (MR ...

MeRP: a high-throughput pipeline for Mendelian randomization analysis [PDF]

open access: yesBioinformatics, 2014
Abstract Summary: We present a Mendelian randomization (MR) pipeline (MeRP) to facilitate rapid, causal inference analysis through automating key steps in developing and analyzing genetic instruments obtained from publicly available data.

Mendelian randomization analyses explore the relationship between cathepsins and lung cancer

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2023
Lung cancer, a major contributor to cancer-related fatalities worldwide, involves a complex pathogenesis. Cathepsins, lysosomal cysteine proteases, play roles in various physiological and pathological processes, including tumorigenesis.

Exploring Diseases/Traits and Blood Proteins Causally Related to Expression of ACE2, the Putative Receptor of SARS-CoV-2: A Mendelian Randomization Analysis Highlights Tentative Relevance of Diabetes-Related Traits

open access: yesDiabetes Care, 2020
OBJECTIVE COVID-19 has become a major public health problem. There is good evidence that ACE2 is a receptor for SARS-CoV-2, and high expression of ACE2 may increase susceptibility to infection. We aimed to explore risk factors affecting susceptibility to

The Association Between Psoriasis and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease: A Mendelian Randomization Analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Background A large number of observational studies showed that patients with psoriasis have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), but most studies did not fully adjust for confounding factors, so it is not clear whether the risk of CVD is ...
