The present paper deals with the spawning characteristics and the fecundity of the Argentine hake, Merluccius hubbsi from the zone in front of the Buenos Aires Province. More than 500 ovaries were studied and 168 of them were considerd in the statistical calculations.

Larval development of Argentine hake Merluccius hubbsi
Journal of Fish Biology, 2009The ontogeny of the developmental stages of the hake Merluccius hubbsi is described. Fish larvae and post‐transitional juveniles were collected in the Nor‐Patagonian area from 1989 to 2004. The opening of the mouth and the pigmentation of the eyes are coincident with yolk resorption, finishing the yolk‐sac stage.

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 19871. The specific activity of muscle acid phosphatase (E.C. 3.1.3.1.) in pre- and post-spawning hake was investigated. 2. Specific activity values, 0.54 in pre-spawning hakes and 1.64 in post-spawning fish, have been obtained. 3. Using a histochemical test, acid phosphatase has been localized mainly in the connective tissue.
