Theoretical conformational analysis of met‐enkephalin [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1977
Two pentapeptides, enkephalins (H-Tyr-Gly- Gly-Phe-X-OH, X = Met or Leu), have recently been isolated from mammalian brain [ 11. Subsequent investigations have mainly concentrated on Met- enkephalin which is synonymous with enkephalin in the present paper. It was assumed on the basis of physiological experiments that enkephalin is the endogenous ligand

Increased Serum Met-enkephalin Level in Patients with Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy

open access: yesBagcilar Medical Bulletin, 2022
Objective:To evaluate met-enkephalin levels in women with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) by comparison to healthy controls and to compare the pregnancy outcomes.Method:This cross-sectional study was conducted in 43 pregnant women with ICP ...

Exposure to exogenous enkephalins disrupts reproductive development in the Eastern lubber grasshopper, Romalea microptera (Insecta: Orthoptera). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Enkephalins play a major role in reproductive physiology in crustaceans; however their role in reproductive development in insects is largely unknown. We investigated the effect of exposure to exogenous leucine-enkephalin (Leu-Enk), methionine-enkephalin

Opioid-like peptides and ghrelin mitigation of bariatric results depends on obesity level

open access: yesEndokrynologia Polska, 2020
INTRODUCTION: Bariatric surgery, as the only effective treatment of obesity, has strong effects on the metabolism, and nervous and endocrine systems. Thus, based on the different opinions about the efficaciousness of morbid obesity treatments, the aim of

Avian opioid peptides: evolutionary considerations, functional roles and a challenge to address critical questions

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2023
The present review considers the putative hormonal opioid peptides in birds. In birds and all other vertebrates, there are four opioid related genes encoding a series of peptides.

The folding funnel landscape for the peptide met-enkephalin [PDF]

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Genetics, 1999
We study the free energy landscape of the small peptide Met-enkephalin. Our data were obtained from a generalized-ensemble Monte Carlo simulation taking the interactions among all atoms into account. We show that the free energy landscape resembles that of a funnel, indicating that this peptide is a good folder.

Neuroanatomical distribution of the enkephalinergic and tachykininergic systems in the alpaca brainstem: an immunohistochemical study

open access: yesFolia Histochemica et Cytobiologica, 2021
INTRODUCTION: A recent study has shown a close neuroanatomical relationship between the enkephalinergic (methionine-enkephalin) and tachykininergic (substance P) systems in the alpaca diencephalon.
