Molecular imprinting for neurology: Materials, applications, and limitations

open access: yesIbrain, Volume 12, Issue 1, Page 3-37, Spring 2026.
Molecularly imprinted materials: diagnostic, therapeutic and research applications in neurology. Molecularly imprinted materials offer high specificity and affinity for target molecules in neurological applications. This review highlights their synthesis, characterisation, and use in diagnostics, research and therapeutics.

Recent Advancements in the Characterization of D‐Amino Acid and Isoaspartate Post‐Translational Modifications

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, Volume 45, Issue 2, Page 218-230, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT One of the great triumphs of mass spectrometry‐based peptide and protein characterization is the characterization of their modifications as most modifications have a characteristic mass shift. What happens when the modification does not change the mass of the peptide?

Peptide chirality and opioid receptor modulation: Hepatoprotective effect of d-Met-enkephalin in acetaminophen-induced liver injury

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica
l-Met-enkephalin is a neuropeptide known to exert protective effects in various experimental models of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. These effects are mediated through opioid receptors and can be abolished by the opioid receptor antagonist ...

Freezing of enkephalinergic functions by multiple noxious foci: a source of pain sensitization? [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
BACKGROUND:The functional significance of proenkephalin systems in processing pain remains an open question and indeed is puzzling. For example, a noxious mechanical stimulus does not alter the release of Met-enkephalin-like material (MELM) from segments

Traditional Chinese Medicine as an Integrative Adjunct in Oncology Perioperative Practice: Analgesia, Immune Modulation, and Translational Challenges

open access: yesMedicine Bulletin, Volume 2, Issue 2, Page 184-204, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), including herbal analgesic adjuvants and acupuncture‐based interventions, has gained increasing attention as an integrative strategy for perioperative pain management in oncology. Bioactive phytochemicals—such as terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, and polyphenols—exert multimodal pharmacological effects ...

Downregulation of the endogenous opioid peptides in the dorsal striatum of human alcoholics

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2015
The endogenous opioid peptides dynorphins and enkephalins may be involved in brain-area specific synaptic adaptations relevant for different stages of an addiction cycle.

Neuronutraceuticals for Alzheimer's Disease Treatment: A Systematic Review of Randomised Controlled Trials Over the Last 20 Years

open access: yesPhytochemicals in Food and Medicine, Volume 1, Issue 1, March 2026.
This PROSPERO‐registered review analysed 37 RCTs on neuronutraceuticals for Alzheimer's disease. Despite diverse targets—amyloid/tau, inflammation, oxidative stress, metabolism, synaptic plasticity, cholinergic and hormonal—the evidence was of low quality. RoB2 flagged attrition (86.5%) and reporting bias (81%). Current data do not support clinical use;

Toward Structure Prediction for Short Peptides Using the Improved SAAP Force Field Parameters

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2013
Based on the observation that Ramachandran-type potential energy surfaces of single amino acid units in water are in good agreement with statistical structures of the corresponding amino acid residues in proteins, we recently developed a new all-atom ...

Investigation of the equilibrium structural and thermodynamic properties of peptide Met-enkephalin in an implicit solvent using parallel-Tempering Simulation [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
The objective of this study is to investigate the equilibrium thermodynamic and structural properties of small proteins in the presence of an implicit solvent using the SMMP package. The work primarily focuses on performing parallel tempering simulations

Molecular and Endocrine Regulation of Ovarian Maturation in the Black Tiger Prawn (Penaeus monodon) and Associated Challenges in Its Aquaculture

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Over the past four decades, substantial research has investigated the regulation of ovarian maturation and spawning in the black tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon). In this species, female reproduction is strongly suppressed by gonad‐inhibiting hormone (GIH) released from the eyestalk, making eyestalk ablation (ESA) the most widely adopted spawning‐
