Physiological Response to Feeding in Little Penguins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
© 2006 by The University of Chicago.Specific dynamic action (SDA), the increase in metabolic rate above resting levels that accompanies the processes of digestion and assimilation of food, can form a substantial part of the daily energy budget of free ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Metabolizable energy value of resistant maltodextrin

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2009
Resistant maltodextrin (RM) is a soluble dietary fiber with desirable functional properties that is resistant to digestion by human enzymes but fermentable. To determine the metabolizable energy (ME) value of RM, a randomized, controlled dose‐response trial was conducted.

Confinement of carbon dots localizing to the ultrathin layered double hydroxides toward simultaneous triple-mode bioimaging and photothermal therapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
It is a great challenge to develop multifunctional nanocarriers for cancer diagnosis and therapy. Herein, versatile CDs/ICG-uLDHs nanovehicles for triple-modal fluorescence/photoacoustic/two-photon bioimaging and effective photothermal therapy were ...

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Metabolizable energy requirements of lactating goats

open access: yesSmall Ruminant Research, 2004
Data from 44 studies with 243 treatment mean observations, representing 2476 goats in various stages of lactation, were used to estimate the requirement and efficiency of use of ME for milk production. Development and evaluation data subsets comprised, respectively, 68 and 32% of observations. ME intake was also adjusted for energy lost in excretion of

Partioning of dietary energy of chickens fed maize or wheat-based diets with and without a commercial blend of phytogenic feed additives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of a standardized mixture of a commercial blend of phytogenic feed additives containing 5% carvacrol, 3% cinnamaldehyde, and 2% capsicum on utilization of dietary energy and performance in broiler ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Food Metabolizability in Normal and Bluecomb Diseased Turkeys ,

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1970
Abstract OF the lesions which have been observed in bluecomb diseased turkeys, most were located in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract (Jungherr and Pomeroy, 1965; Adams, 1969). Important alterations in GI function have also been shown to exist. These include a significant decrease in GI propulsive motility (Duke et al., 1969; Dziuk et al., 1969a) and a
