Six cloned stocks of Trypanosoma congolense, isolated from the same area of Eastern Zambia, were maintained in vitro as insect form cultures producing infective metacyclic trypanosomes. Although the same general culture conditions were applied, different handling regimes were required for optimum growth of each stock.

Summary Metacyclic trypomastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi, derived either from triatomid vectors or axenic cultures, were found to be extensively lysed by sera of some non‐Chagasic healthy individuals through activation of the alternative complement pathway. Antibodies to T.

ABSTRACT High metacyclogenesis was induced when freshly‐isolated Trypanosoma rangeli from humans were grown in a modified liver‐infusion‐tryptose medium and transferred into the medium overlaid on mouse fibroblasts at 27° C in a 5% CO2 atmosphere.

Metacyclic trypomastigotes and epimastigotes of the Tulahuén strain of Trypanosoma cruzi were cultivated in a liquid metacyclic culture (LMC) medium. Trypanosome mixtures containing different percentages (7.5%, 15%, and 30%) of metacyclic stages obtained from these cultures were used to examine the effects of pH and anion exchange medium on the ...

Natural transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi to human is established when feces of hematophagous triatomines contaminated with insect-derived from metacyclic trypomastigotes get in contact with the skin, conjunctiva or even oral route. Article is aimed at updating the knowledge about the early interaction between insect-derived metacyclic trypomastigotes ...
