Pediatric Obesity: Influence on Drug Dosing and Therapeutics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Obesity is an ongoing global health concern and has only recently been recognized as a chronic disease of energy homeostasis and fuel partitioning. Obesity afflicts 17% of US children and adolescents.

Metformin treatment before and during IVF or ICSI in women with polycystic ovary syndrome.

open access: yesCochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2020
BACKGROUND The use of insulin-sensitising agents, such as metformin, in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who are undergoing ovulation induction or in vitro fertilisation (IVF) cycles has been widely studied. Metformin reduces hyperinsulinaemia

Metformin: a metabolic modulator

open access: yesOncotarget, 2017
Recent findings have shed new light on the mechanisms of action through which biguanides exert their anti-aging and cytostatic effects in Caenorhabditis elegans and human cell lines. The drop in energy charge resulting from the metformin mediated inhibition of mitochondrial activity affects the function of the nuclear pore complex, blocks mTOR ...

Adaptive Antioxidant Nanomedicines Inhibit Ferroptosis in Renal Tubular Epithelial Cells to Alleviate Diabetic Kidney Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, an adaptive antioxidant nanodrug (AAN) is developed through the self‐polymerization of L‐selenocysteine. The AAN exhibits dual functionalities: antioxidant activity (scavenging reactive oxygen species) and mitochondrial targeting. Moreover, the released selenium (Se) participates in the synthesis of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), which

Effect of Metformin Use on Survival in Resectable Pancreatic Cancer: A Single-Institution Experience and Review of the Literature.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Observational studies have demonstrated that metformin use in diabetic patients is associated with reduced cancer incidence and mortality. Here, we aimed to determine whether metformin use was associated with improved survival in patients with resected ...

Endocannabinoid receptor blockade increases hepatocyte growth factor and reduces insulin levels in obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
There is evidence from animal and in-vitro studies that activation of the endocannabinoid system (EC) through cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB-1) is associated with liver injury, inflammation and hepatocellular carcinoma.1 Data suggests endogenous cannabinoids

Metformin Restores Tetracyclines Susceptibility against Multidrug Resistant Bacteria

open access: yesAdvancement of science, 2020
Highly persistent incidence of multidrug resistant (MDR) bacterial pathogens constitutes a global burden for public health. An alternative strategy to alleviate such a crisis is to identify promising compounds to restore antibiotics activity against MDR ...

Pharmacogenetics of Metformin

open access: yesOpen Access Indonesian Journal of Medical Reviews, 2021
Hyperglycemia is a medical condition in which an increase in glucose levels in the blood exceeds normal limits. Hyperglycemia is one of the typical signs of diabetes mellitus (DM). The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts an increase in the number of people with DM which is a global health threat.

EETs Reduction Contributes to Granulosa Cell Senescence and Endometriosis‐Associated Infertility via the PI3K/AKT/mTOR Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
1) 14, 15‐EET levels were decreased in ovarian granulosa cells, follicular fluid, peritoneal fluid from endometriosis patients. 2) EETs reduction in endometriosis follicular fluid aggravated granulosa cell senescence. 3) ROS reduced 14, 15‐EET levels by upregulating EPHX2 through a mechanism involving histone methylation modification.

Patients‐Derived Organoids Sequencing‐based FOXP4 Facilitates Radioresistance by Transcriptionally Modifying GPX4 to Regulate ferroptosis in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FOXP4 regulates GPX4 transcription to suppress ferroptosis. In CRC patients, initial biopsies established PDO cultures alongside concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Post‐treatment MRI with mrTRG scoring stratified radioresistant/sensitive cohorts. Parallelly, 8Gy‐irradiated PDOs underwent viability‐based stratification.
