Measurement of Airway Responsiveness on Vigil and Unrestrained Mouse

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2013
Airway hyperresponsiveness to methacholine is an important characteristic of asthma. This protocol describes how to measure airway response to methacholine in vigil and unrestraint mouse.

Challenges in interpreting allergen microarrays in relation to clinical symptoms: a machine learning approach. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Identifying different patterns of allergens and understanding their predictive ability in relation to asthma and other allergic diseases is crucial for the design of personalized diagnostic tools.Allergen-IgE screening using ImmunoCAP ISAC(®) assay was ...

Work‐Related Asthma From Exposure to Cardboard and Paper Products

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background We assess the contribution of cardboard dust exposure to the development of work‐related asthma (WRA). Prior studies on paper‐dust‐related breathing problems have focused on exposures in the paper milling and pulp industries. There have been no reports of asthma linked to workplace exposure to cardboard dust.

Comparison of mannitol and methacholine to predict exercise-induced bronchoconstriction and a clinical diagnosis of asthma

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2009
Background Asthma can be difficult to diagnose, but bronchial provocation with methacholine, exercise or mannitol is helpful when used to identify bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR), a key feature of the disease.

What makes a difference in exercise-induced bronchoconstriction: an 8 year retrospective analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
BACKGROUND: Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) was recently classified into EIB alone and EIB with asthma, based on the presence of concurrent asthma.

Nasal Airway Transcriptome Reflects Selected Asthma‐Associated Gene Signatures in the Lower Airways

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Seven genes and two gene modules were consistently associated with asthma in both airway compartments in ARMS and were validated in ATLANTIS. The two modules reflected IL‐13 related inflammation and mast cell activity, respectively. Nasal gene signatures provide a non‐invasive proxy for selected bronchial asthma‐associated gene signatures. Relationship between bronchial hyperreactivity and complete blood count derived inflammatory biomarkers

open access: yesGülhane Tıp Dergisi
Aims: Studies specifically linking bronchoprovocation test (BPT) positivity with complete blood count (CBC)-derived biomarkers are limited. We investigated the relationship between CBC-derived biomarkers and BPT positivity in this study.

More airway smooth muscle in males versus females in a mouse model of asthma: A blessing in disguise?

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, 2023
Mouse models are helpful in unveiling the mechanisms underlying sex disparities in asthma. In comparison to their female counterparts, male mice are hyperresponsive to inhaled methacholine, a cardinal feature of asthma that contributes to its symptoms ...

Resolving Endoplasmic Reticulum‐Protein Misfolding Restores Corticosteroid Sensitivity in Experimental Models of Severe Asthma

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
This study investigates the role of ER stress in steroid resistance in severe asthma. Results from advanced 3D models of human bronchial epithelial cells, steroid‐resistant severe asthma mouse models, and human severe asthma sputum samples show that treatment with ICS in combination with the ER stress inhibitor 4‐PBA significantly enhances steroid ...

Differential effects of allergen challenge on large and small airway reactivity in mice. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The relative contributions of large and small airways to hyperresponsiveness in asthma have yet to be fully assessed. This study used a mouse model of chronic allergic airways disease to induce inflammation and remodelling and determine whether in vivo ...
