Characterization of D-Arabitol as Newly Discovered Carbon Source of Bacillus methanolicus

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Bacillus methanolicus is a Gram-positive, thermophilic, methanol-utilizing bacterium. As a facultative methylotroph, B. methanolicus is also known to utilize D-mannitol, D-glucose and, as recently discovered, sugar alcohol D-arabitol.

Metabolic Imbalance Triggers Adaptive Remodeling to Accelerate Diploidization in Murine Haploid Embryonic Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this article, Shuai and colleagues demonstrate that metabolic remodeling drives self‐diploidization in murine haploid ESCs (haESCs). Mitochondrial dysfunction and imbalanced pyruvate metabolism underlie this process. Genome‐wide screening using haESCs identifies key mitochondrial quality‐control related genes, enabling a metabolism‐based medium that

Calcium in quinoprotein methanol dehydrogenase can be replaced by strontium.

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1990
Formation of quinoprotein methanol dehydrogrnase (MDH) in Methylobacillus glycogenes, an obligate methylotroph, was strictly controlled by calcium (Ca) in the culture medium. Both the growth of the organism and the total enzyme activity of MDH were also repressed at less than 1 ppm of Ca, although specific activity of MDH showed a similar level.

The BnTFL1‐BnJAM3‐BnSWEETs Module Orchestrates Seed Storage Reserve Accumulation in Brassica napus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
BnaC03.TFL1 and BnaA01.JAM3 form a complex that facilitates the transport of soluble sugars from the seed coat to the embryo by directly activating the expression of BnSWEETs. Furthermore, BnaC03.TFL1 and BnaA01.JAM3 work cooperatively to promote soluble sugar and oil production while suppressing protein deposition.

Metabolism of methane and propane and the role of the glyoxylate bypass enzymes in Methylocella silvestris BL2 [PDF]

open access: yes
Methylocella silvestris BL2 is a moderately acidophilic facultative methanotroph isolated from forest soil in 2003. Uniquely, it has the ability to grow on a wide range of multi-carbon compounds in addition to methane. An analysis of growth conditions

Identification of a two-component regulatory system controlling methanol dehydrogenase synthesis in Paracoccus denitrificans

open access: yes, 1993
Upstream of the moxFJGIR genes of Paracoccus denitrificans a regulatory region involved in methanol oxidation was identified. The nucleotide sequence of this region was determined and revealed three genes, moxZ, moxY and moxX, which are transcribed ...

Effect of trace element supplementation on the mesophilic anaerobic digestion of foodwaste in batch trials: the influence of inoculum origin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Batch anaerobic trials using a source-separated food waste as a substrate with inoculums of different origins were carried out under mesophilic conditions.

Astrocytic Phenotypic Switching in Posterior Piriform Cortex Orchestrates Bone Cancer Pain–Depression Comorbidity via Purinergic–Noradrenergic Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bone cancer pain and depression share a common origin: astrocytic A2‐to‐A1 transition in the posterior piriform cortex. This phenotypic shift disrupts the ATP–adenosine–A2AR–norepinephrine axis, simultaneously driving nociceptive and affective dysfunction.

Methanol oxidation in a spontaneous mutant of Thiosphaera pantotropha with a methanol-positive phenotype is catalysed by a dye-linked ethanol dehydrogenase

open access: yes, 1995
A spontaneous Thiosphaera pantotropha mutant (Tp9002) that is able to grow on methanol has been isolated. With hybridization experiments it has been demonstrated that mxaF, the gene encoding the large subunit of methanol dehydrogenase, is absent from T ...
