The biological significance of methionine sulfoxide stereochemistry [PDF]
Methionine can be oxidized by reactive oxygen species to a mixture of two diastereomers, methionine-S-sulfoxide and methionine-R-sulfoxide. Both free amino acid and protein-based forms of methionine-S-sulfoxide are stereospecifically reduced by MsrA, whereas the reduction of methionine-R-sulfoxide requires two enzymes, MsrB and fRMsr, which act on its ...

Reduction of Methionine Sulfoxide by Plants
Methionine sulfoxide was reduced by plants such as rice, large crabgrass, oats, soybeans, Japanese dock and green amaranth, forming methionine. This reduction occurred rapidly but not completely. The sulfoxide was also reduced by an excess offerrous chloride and methionine or in the presence of the boiled root system of rice plants.

m6A‐Driven Pexophagy Triggers Placental Ferroptosis to Impair Fetal Growth Upon Environmental Stress
Prenatal environmental stress exposure promotes m6A modification to drive PEX2‐dependent pexophagy, thereby causing placental ferroptosis and FGR. ABSTRACT The role and underlying mechanisms of placental ferroptosis in fetal growth restriction (FGR) induced by environmental stress remain poorly understood.

Dual Repression by IPA1 Fine‐Tunes OsbZIP79‐Mediated Salt Tolerance in Rice
Dual repression by IPA1 fine‐tunes OsbZIP79‐mediated salt tolerance in rice: direct transcriptional inhibition under normal conditions and salt‐induced degradation under stress. This dual mechanism activates OsbZIP79 to regulate Na+/K+ homeostasis and redox balance via downstream genes, enabling optimal salt stress response.

Selenium and methionine sulfoxide reduction [PDF]
Methionine residues in proteins can be readily oxidized to a diastereomeric mixture of methionine sulfoxides by reactive oxygen species. In most organisms, methionine sulfoxides are reversibly and stereospecifically reduced back to methionine by two ...

Cloperastine suppresses osteoclastogenesis by inhibiting PGC1β‐mediated oxidative phosphorylation. Its incorporation into a ROS‐responsive, Asp8‐modified nanoplatform enhances skeletal accumulation. The resulting Clo/Asp8‐PMK‐MCs combine cloperastine‐mediated antiresorptive activity with carrier‐mediated osteogenic activity to attenuate OVX‐induced ...

International audienceABSTRACT Methionine ranks among the amino acids most sensitive to oxidation, which converts it to a racemic mixture of methionine- S -sulfoxide (Met-S-SO) and methionine- R -sulfoxide (Met-R-SO).

Characterization and solution structure of mouse myristoylated methionine sulfoxide reductase A [PDF]
Methionine sulfoxide reductase A is an essential enzyme in the antioxidant system which scavenges reactive oxygen species through cyclic oxidation and reduction of methionine and methionine sulfoxide.
