PDHA1 Hyperactivation‐Mediated Glucose Metabolism Reprogramming Fuels Neutrophil NETosis and Promotes Acute Lung Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
During NETosis, neutrophils shift metabolically toward enhanced OXPHOS and partially reduced glycolysis. This shift is driven by PDHA1 hyperactivity‐dependent selective metabolic reprogramming. The neutrophil‐targeted nanoparticle 3‑FP‑BSA NPs effectively inhibit NETosis and attenuate ALI.

The metNPQ operon of Bacillus subtilis encodes an ABC permease transporting methionine sulfoxide, D-and L-methionine.

open access: yes, 2004
International audienceThe Bacillus subtilis yusCBA operon, which encodes an ABC-type transporter, contains an S-box motif in its promoter region. We showed that the expression of these genes is repressed via the S-box system when methionine is available.

Methionine sulfoxide reductases are essential for virulence of Salmonella typhimurium. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Production of reactive oxygen species represents a fundamental innate defense against microbes in a diversity of host organisms. Oxidative stress, amongst others, converts peptidyl and free methionine to a mixture of methionine-S- (Met-S-SO) and ...

Methionine Sulfoxide Reduction in Mammals: Characterization of Methionine-\u3ci\u3eR\u3c/i\u3e-Sulfoxide Reductases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Methionine residues in proteins are susceptible to oxidation by reactive oxygen species, but can be repaired via reduction of the resulting methionine sulfoxides by methionine-S-sulfoxide reductase (MsrA) and methionine-R-sulfoxide reductase (MsrB ...

Catalytic Advantages Provided by Selenocysteine in Methionine-S-Sulfoxide Reductases†

open access: yes, 2016
Methionine sulfoxide reductases are key enzymes that repair oxidatively damaged proteins. Two distinct stereospecific enzyme families are responsible for this function:  MsrA (methionine-S-sulfoxide reductase) and MsrB (methionine-R-sulfoxide reductase).

Turning Bonding Into Function: The Emerging Role of the Bioactive Selenium─Metal Motif in Toxicology and Medicinal Chemistry

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Balancing Act: Se─M bond serving as the fulcrum of the balance scale to compare the different weight of toxicity and therapeutic effects in biological environment. ABSTRACT The synthesis and characterization of organo‐selenium compounds have attracted considerable interest for decades, driven by the search for efficient catalysts and bioinspired ...

Role of selenium in the pathophysiology of cardiorenal anaemia syndrome

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 770-780, April 2025.
Abstract Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) have multiple bidirectional mechanisms, and anaemia is one of the critical factors that are associated with the progression of the two disorders [referred to as cardiorenal anaemia syndrome (CRAS)].

Navigating the Radical Oxo‐Functionalization of Alkenes Toward Ketones

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Straightforward access to complex ketones in a single synthetic step: This Review surveys the latest advances in three‐component alkene 1,2‐oxo‐functionalizations. The opportunities unlocked by the so‐called single‐electron (1e–) logic, including access to a broad pool of radical precursors and carbonyl oxygen atom sources, are highlighted.

The Methionine Sulfoxide Reduction System: Selenium Utilization and Methionine Sulfoxide Reductase Enzymes and Their Functions [PDF]

open access: yesAntioxidants & Redox Signaling, 2013
Selenium is utilized in the methionine sulfoxide reduction system that occurs in most organisms. Methionine sulfoxide reductases (Msrs), MsrA and MsrB, are the enzymes responsible for this system. Msrs repair oxidatively damaged proteins, protect against oxidative stress, and regulate protein function, and have also been implicated in the aging process.

Identification of methionine sulfoxide diastereomers in immunoglobulin gamma antibodies using methionine sulfoxide reductase enzymes [PDF]

open access: yesmAbs, 2010
Light-induced formation of singlet oxygen selectively oxidizes methionines in the heavy chain of IgG2 antibodies. Peptide mapping has indicated the following sensitivities to oxidation: M252 > M428 > M397. Irrespective of the light source, formulating proteins with the free amino acid methionine limits oxidative damage.
