One Hundred Years of Sulfido Ligand in the Molybdenum Cofactor: New Perspectives

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 19, 14 October 2026.
The terminal sulfido ligand in mononuclear molybdoenzymes has been appreciated for almost 125 years, with the characterization of Schardinger's enzyme in cow's milk, now known to be xanthine oxidase, that was isolated in 1902 in Vienna, Austria. The ligand is found in molybdoenzymes identified across all kingdoms of life.

Kinetic Characterization of the Chemical Steps Involved in the Catalytic Mechanism of Methionine Sulfoxide Reductase A from Neisseria meningitidis

open access: yes, 2003
International audienceOxidation of methionine into methionine sulfoxide is associated with many pathologies and is described to exert regulatory effects on protein functions. Two classes of methionine sulfoxide reductases, called MsrA and MsrB, have been

Functional Heterogeneity of the Autism Spectrum Disorder‐Associated Gut Microbial Ecosystem Revealed by Fecal Lipopolysaccharides and Bacterial Proteomic Profiling

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 19, 14 October 2026.
Gut microbiota associated with pediatric autism spectrum disorder exhibit functional heterogeneity characterized by altered fecal lipopolysaccharide landscapes, metabolic remodeling, and enhanced microglial inflammatory responses despite largely preserved microbial composition.

Encapsulation of Porphyrins in Polymer Microgels and Microbeads for Heterogeneous Photooxidation

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 19, 14 October 2026.
Amino‐ or ammonium‐functionalized tetraphenylporphyrins were synthesized and encapsulated within polymers to form microgels and microbeads that act as heterogeneous photocatalysts. Photooxidation in aqueous media quantitatively converts sulfides and aldehydes into sulfoxides and carboxylic acids via the singlet‐oxygen pathway, demonstrating an ...

A Selectfluor‐based Polonovski Rearrangement Leading to Novel Entities for Synthetic and Medicinal Applications

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 38, 13 October 2026.
Starting from carboxylic acids and Selectfluor‐derivatives, functionalized diazabicyclooctanes can be obtained via a novel Polonovski‐type rearrangement proceeding under mild reaction conditions. Besides their use in organic synthesis the unique structure and reactivity of the rearrangement products enables applications in medicinal chemistry ...

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 600, Issue 19, Page 2876-2898, October 2026.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Lignin Mimicking Protein Methylation Augments the Efficacy of FOLFOX Chemotherapy by Anchoring Thymidylate Synthase

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 57, 13 October 2026.
Lignin‐mimicking protein methylation can enhance the efficacy and mitigate the toxicity of the classic FOLFOX chemotherapy regimen. ABSTRACT FOLFOX has served as the standard chemotherapy regimen for advanced stages, specifically in the treatment of pancreatic, colorectal, and bladder cancers.

In Vivo Effects of Methionine Sulfoxide Reductase Deficiency in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yes, 2018
The deleterious alteration of protein structure and function due to the oxidation of methionine residues has been studied extensively in age-associated neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.

ApoE lipidation state directs immunometabolic reprogramming of human microglia

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION ApoE ε4 is the strongest genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Emerging evidence suggests that ApoE4 increases AD risk by disrupting microglial metabolism and function. However, whether ApoE lipidation state contributes to microglial dysfunction remains poorly understood. METHODS Human microglia were treated with lipid‐

X-ray powder diffraction analysis of methionine sulfoxide

open access: yes, 2001
Powder X-ray diffraction data for methionine sulfoxide, C5H11NO3S, obtained from the commercial amino acid, are presented in this work. Monoclinic cell parameters are: a = 15.500 Angstrom; b = 3.820 Angstrom; c = 13.490 Angstrom; 8=97.300 degrees.
