Variations in the germinal center response revealed by genetically diverse mouse strains

open access: yesImmunology &Cell Biology, Volume 102, Issue 10, Page 935-948, November‐December 2024.
In this study, we investigated the impact of genetic variation on the germinal center response. Using a panel of genetically divergent strains, we uncover an important impact of genetics on the number, size and cellular composition of germinal centers, both at steady state and after immune challenge.

Skeletal Phenotyping of Period‐1‐Deficient Melatonin‐Proficient Mice

open access: yesJournal of Pineal Research, Volume 76, Issue 8, November 2024.
ABSTRACT In mice, variability in adult bone size and density has been observed among common inbred strains. Also, in the group of genes regulating circadian rhythmicity in mice, so called clock genes, changes in body size and skeletal parameters have been noted in knockout mice.

Working with Miraculous Mice: Mus musculus as a Model Organism

open access: yesCurrent Protocols, Volume 4, Issue 10, October 2024.
Abstract The laboratory mouse has been described as a “miracle” model organism, providing a window by which we may gain an understanding of ourselves. Since the first recorded mouse experiment in 1664, the mouse has become the most used animal model in biomedical research.

Enhancement of Leishmania amazonensis infection in BCG non-responder mice by BCG-antigen specific vaccine

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1992
Different patterns of cutaneous leishmaniasis can be induced when a challenge of alike dose of Leishmania amazonensis amastigotes in various inbred strains was applied.

Thirty Mouse Strain Survey of Voluntary Physical Activity and Energy Expenditure: Influence of Strain, Sex and Day–Night Variation

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2020
We measured indirect calorimetry and activity parameters, VO2 and VCO2 to extract respiratory exchange ratio (RER) and energy expenditure in both sexes of 30 inbred mouse strains of 6 genetic families at 9–13 weeks during one photophase and the ...

OMIP‐105: A 30‐color full‐spectrum flow cytometry panel to characterize the immune cell landscape in spleen and tumor within a syngeneic MC‐38 murine colon carcinoma model

open access: yesCytometry Part A, Volume 105, Issue 9, Page 659-665, September 2024.
Abstract This panel was designed to characterize the immune cell landscape in the mouse tumor microenvironment as well as mouse lymphoid tissues (e.g., spleen). As an example, using the MC‐38 mouse syngeneic tumor model, we demonstrated that we could measure the frequency and characterize the functional status of CD4 T cells, CD8 T cells, regulatory T ...

Characterization of mixed allogeneic chimeras. Immunocompetence, in vitro reactivity, and genetic specificity of tolerance. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Mixed allogeneically reconstituted mice (B10 + B10.D2----B10) that specifically accept B10.D2 tail skin allografts were examined for in vivo and in vitro immunocompetence, patterns of hematopoietic repopulation, and in vitro reactivity.

Leishmania promastigotes evade interleukin 12 (IL-12) induction by macrophages and stimulate a broad range of cytokines from CD4+ T cells during initiation of infection. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Leishmania major are intramacrophage parasites whose eradication requires the induction of T helper 1 (Th1) effector cells capable of activating macrophages to a microbicidal state.

L-arginine: A unique amino acid for improving depressed wound immune function following hemorrhage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Objective: To determine whether L-arginine has any salutary effects on wound immune cell function following trauma-hemorrhage. Background. Depressed wound immune function contributes to an increased incidence of wound infections following hemorrhage ...

Comparison of Adult Hippocampal Neurogenesis and Susceptibility to Treadmill Exercise in Nine Mouse Strains

open access: yesNeural Plasticity, 2017
The genetic background of mice has various influences on the efficacy of physical exercise, as well as adult neurogenesis in the hippocampus. In this study, we investigated the basal level of hippocampal neurogenesis, as well as the effects of treadmill ...
