Intra- and inter-individual genetic differences in gene expression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Genetic variation is known to influence the amount of mRNA produced by a gene. Given that the molecular machines control mRNA levels of multiple genes, we expect genetic variation in the components of these machines would influence multiple genes in a ...

Cocaine locomotor activation, sensitization and place preference in six inbred strains of mice

open access: yesBehavioral and Brain Functions, 2011
Background The expanding set of genomics tools available for inbred mouse strains has renewed interest in phenotyping larger sets of strains. The present study aims to explore phenotypic variability among six commonly-used inbred mouse strains to both ...

Strain variation in spermatozoal glycosidases in inbred mice

open access: yesGenetical Research, 1978
SUMMARYTen glycosidases were measured in suspensions of spermatozoa from the vasa deferentia of two inbred mouse strains and their intercrosses. Eight of these glycosidases were associated with the sperm cells and all of these showed genetical variation between the strains except α-l-fucosidase with optimal activity at pH 5·4.

Evidence of a Large-Scale Functional Organization of Mammalian Chromosomes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2005
Evidence from inbred strains of mice indicates that a quarter or more of the mammalian genome consists of chromosome regions containing clusters of functionally related genes.

Strain differences in seizure-induced cell death following pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2012
Mouse strains differ from one another in their susceptibility to seizure-induced excitotoxic cell death. Previously, we have demonstrated that mature inbred strains of mice show remarkable genetic differences in susceptibility to the neuropathological ...

Genetic variation in hippocampal microRNA expression differences in C57BL/6 J X DBA/2 J (BXD) recombinant inbred mouse strains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: miRNAs are short single-stranded non-coding RNAs involved in post-transcriptional gene regulation that play a major role in normal biological functions and diseases. Little is currently known about how expression of miRNAs is regulated.

Male mice emit distinct ultrasonic vocalizations when the female leaves the social interaction arena. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Adult male mice emit large number of complex ultrasonic vocalizations (USVs) when interacting with adult females. Call numbers and call categories differ greatly among inbred mouse strains.

Allelic Variation in Maize Malate Dehydrogenase 7 Shapes Promoter Methylation and Banded Leaf and Sheath Blight Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study maize chloroplastic malate dehydrogenase7 (ZmMDH7), is identified as a Rhizoctonia solani resistance gene in maize. ZmMDH7 is regulated by transcription factor ZmWRKY44 via pathogens challenge to elevate mitochondrial ROS and SA signaling pathway.

The bone marrow micronucleus test and metronidazole genotoxicity in different strains of mice (Mus musculus)

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2007
The mouse (Mus musculus) bone marrow micronucleus test was carried out using 24 outbred National Institutes of Health (NIH) mice, 24 inbred Swiss Webster (CFW) mice and 20 inbred Bagg albino/color locus Jackson (BALB/cJ) mice.
